Problems with crashing IBM X3630 M3/ZFS
Hello. I've got a quartet of IBM x3630 M3 with one that is frequently hard locking under heavy NFS load. I am running 9.0-RELEASE with all the patches from freebsd-update. My problem machine has 8 16 core clients, each doing IO intensive tasks connected to it via a Procurve and the onboard igb0 interface. Mostly network reads, typically 10MB read per MB written. When the machine locks

"nonstandard" column names
Hi everyone, I am sure that this question has been asked here some time ago but I do not remember the answer and was unable to find it in the archives... Below is my question: suppose that I have a data.frame x and one of it's columns name is "CPI/RPI" (without quotation marks of course). How can I reference this column? Neither of x$CPI/RPI or x$"CPI/RPI" work. I

R 4.0 for ARM processors
Hmmmm. Perhaps I'm using the wrong terminology. My logic is: (1) I am running Ubuntu focal on the cluster. (2) Ubuntu focal is built on Debian bullseye but (3) Debian bullseye is not yet the stable release; it is the 'testing' release; hence (4) I will pull the r-base-core package from the 'testing' version of Debian. And, in fact, I found r-base-core for 4.0.2 in the bullseye

Debian Buster RPi Louis'-repos
I have two DC's. One on an Intel based box and the other on a Raspberry Pi (2B?) both using Louis' repos running Samba 4.12.3. In comparing "samba-debug-info.txt" (generated by Louis' "samba-collect-debug-info.sh" script) I see that the RPi /etc/nsswitch.conf (file) does NOT include /systemd/ in the 'passwd' & 'group' lines like the Intel

Raspberry Pi Version of Samba?
I thought I'd chime in here a bit. I'm no RPi guru - but I've used them quite a lot for monitoring installs - stuff like Smokeping/Nagios/OMD/Cacti. They were cheap and seemed attractive low-power devices for client installs - back 5-6 years ago. I'm definitely using regular PC's now. Yes, the hardware is more expensive - but an Optiplex 7010 or the like off of ebay, with a

R 4.0 for ARM processors
Thank you very much, Dirk. That nudge solved the problem, of course. I am embarrassed. I was so fixated on Ubuntu repositories that I neglected to check the Debian 'testing' world! Regarding the RPi: The RPi 4 uses the 'arm64' architecture, the full 64-bit one. I stopped using dedicated distros, such as Raspian, when Ubuntu went all-in on RPi support, which happened in their

Raspberry Pi Version of Samba?
Everybody, In my case I used a RPi as an additional DC for a month or so while making some Samba4 AD improvements to the main DC's. My main DC's run on some nanopc Intel J1800 (cpu) based fanless (about 5" x 5" x 2") box's that by spec sheet draws a maximum of 15W to run on full load. As a DC they never run on full load. These boxes are actually designed to be run 24/7

Windows 7 can't see Pi Samba server
Hi Rowland > Possibly a firewall problem, temporarily turn off the firewall on the win7 > laptop that cannot see your rpi, if this works, you know where to look. Thanks for the suggestion. I disabled Kaspersky Internet Security Firewall and Windows Firewall but still can't see the rpi. I can, however, see the other Windows laptops (with firewall on or off). Any other thoughts

Why are LAN ports not standard on UPSs these days?
Hi Phil, I don't have an answer to your question about the lack of LAN ports, but can offer my experience with NUT for a home server environment. I've tended to prefer the Tripp-Lite UPS systems, mainly because I originally felt they did a good job of power filtering. I use a NUT master running on a Raspberry Pi 3 which is easy to maintain and gets current updates via its Debian roots.

R 4.0 for ARM processors
2 years ago at one Meetup in Paris, Marc Girondot, professor at University Paris-Saclay, presented his cluster built with 12 Odroid (equivalent to Rapsberry Pi). The stack was almost the same size than your picture as there was no fan and a narrower distance between each PCB card. There were many more cables. For a total cost of less than 1000 ? and an electrical consumption reduced by a
