Can't get port forwarded from net to net
I have followed the instructions at http://shorewall.net/FAQ.htm#faq2
along with some coaching on IRC from _Omache to get a machine (with IP
address 66.93.22.233) to forward all port 25 traffic to another host in
my network (with IP 66.93.22.254). This has not worked. I have tested
by trying `telnet 66.93.22.233 25`, expecting to see the SMTP banner on
66.93.22.254. Of course, I don''t

--exclude-from and a directory name that contains a hyphen
I'm having a problem with an exclude list and I wanted to run it by the group before I cry "Bug!". Here's the scenario:
I'm working on a script to selectively synchronize several directories with those on a server using rsync (version 3.0.5 protocol version 30). I am using the --exclude-from command option, and everything works, except when a directory I am specifying

Funny characters in http://www.shorewall.net/FAQ.htm
Hello Mike, Tom, (I am not sure who is working on this part)
There are some funny characters in FAQ.htm in a number of places.
I have provided a precursory analysis of this issue. It is not a big=20
deal, but something that I imagine will be worked out at some point.
I have provided a couple examples.
Is there a way I can see the xslt stylesheets?
Could they live in cvs at some point? Maybe I

Gale-Shapley Algorithm for R
Dear R-helpers,
I'm not a speciallist in writing complex functions, and the function still
very rusty (any kind of suggestions are very welcome). I want to implement
Gale-Shapley algorithm for R Language. It is based on
http://www.jstor.org/stable/10.2307/2312726 Gale and Shapley (1962) , and it

Profiles and home directory - Samba PDC
I have sucessfully got a windows 2K machine to join the domain but I can not
get it to run a logon script, map the drive letter to the home directory or
create a roaming profile. All my smb.conf setting look correct as per the
samples and How To's so I'm stuck!
smb.conf is as follows:
# Global parameters
[global]
workgroup = LINUX
netbios name = LINUX1
server string = Samba Server

LVM and kickstarts ?
Hey,
Can anyone tell me why option 1 works and option 2 fails ? I know I
need swap and such, however in trouble shooting this issue I trimmed
down my config.
It fails on trying to format my logical volume, because the mount point
does not exist (/dev/volgroup/logvol)
It seems that with option 2, the partitions are created and LVM is setup
correctly. However the volgroup / logvolume was not

symbol clash with vorbis
Hi all,
Speex and the Vorbis library both define internally used functions
with the names:
drft_init
drft_forward
drft_backward
drft_clear
When Speex and Vorbis are used as dynmaic libs, there is no symbol
clash because both libraries limit the number of functions they
export to what is absolutely necessary.
However, when linking static versions of these two libraries, the
names

Need information to bypass the preauth in openssh
Hi,
I am Vishwanath, I got one requirement from our clients regarding remote
authentication. In which all users info present in remote user database.
Currently using openssh for SSH connections.
To open a new remote session via SSH, the openssh will look into the
/etc/passwd file. If user present then it will allow to login using
password or key authentication.
But in my case all user info is

HP Deskjet drivers, Samba and Cups
I have Samba 2.2.7 running on Redhat 8 (fully updated). I have two printers
set up - a laser and a Deskjet 920C both connected to the Redhat server via
USB cables. Printing is managed using CUPS although I get the same problem
with LPR and Webmin configured printers. The laser works fine, the deskjet
doesn't. The deskjet works with a generic windows HP Deskjet or HP Deskjet

Query re Tom''s firewall (see http://www.shorewall.net/myfiles.htm)
On the firewall, what is the rationale for giving eth1 an IP address
that is also assigned eto eth0? (Rather than a private one.)

Ralloc clash
Hi everyone,
Have been trying to include windows.h (from MinGW) and R.h into a package
and have found that Ralloc is coming up as a clash no matter which include
ordering I use. In windows it has 2 arguments and is defined in objidl.h
and in R.h it is 3 arguments. Any ideas of how to work round this? Have
checked the web and have not seen anyone else comment on this.
Many thanks

almost printing
Ok, I've managed to print to my HPDeskjet 694c attached to a Solaris 8 box
running samba 2.2.2 from Win98. Problem is with the left margin, there are
these little lines (garbage) running down the 1st column on the left side
of the page. Also, when I print a page from Word 97, the whole page doesn't
print (about 95% of it) and starts a little too far down the page. Printing
was perfect
