Accessing an external USB disk
I was able to remove the NTFS partition and repartition the HD as a type
Linux (83). Next I created the ext3 file system.
If I reboot with the USB drive attached, the boot process hangs, however
if I turn off the drive, boot and then turn it on, all is fine.
# cat /etc/fstab
shows the drive, but I am not sure how to use it for a backup nor do I
know how to access it. Any help would be

Intel 536ep as a FXO?
Hi,
I've seen some reports about ruuning Intel modem with 537 or MD3200
chipset running with Zaptel drivers as a FXO port. Did anybody managed
to set up a PCI faxmodem based on Intel536ep chipset to work with * and
Zaptel drivers?
Modem seemd to work just fine with Linux, but the driver says no;)

Fwd: Fwd: HOW to enable traceroute with IPTABLES(SLOVED)
Hi all,
That issue is over now. I found why my ESTABLISHED,RELATED rule at the top
of INPUT chain did not work for udp and icmp.
The reason was I have included the protocol as tcp as below
iptables -A INPUT -i eth0 -p tcp -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j
ACCEPT
I removed -p tcp from above rule. Now it works for all protocols.
Thanks for your support.

Allocating 64 kbits/s out of 256 kbits/s for one LAN behing firewall
Hi,
We have a 256 kbits/s (kilobits per second) link to the internet. it is a
router running Linux that belongs to our ISP. They have given us 8 internet
ips. (i.e- subnet is 255.255.255.248). one has been given to this router. I
have given another internet ip to the firewall running CentOS 4.5. iptables
is running on it. And also, I have installed iproute2 pkg as well.

Problems with building a complete kernel
I have a plain vanilla Centos source (not 100% sure where we got it
from), but I can't seem to get a build that installs correctly.
I tried the method described at
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel, but rpm doesn't like the
output file, and even if I install it with -F, nothing seems to happen -
no new kernel, now initrd, nothing.
When I tried following the directions in the

traceroute misbehaviour on dual-home using -i or -s
My Linux workstation (Mandrake 10.1 kernel 2.6.8.1) is dual-homed to two
ADSL Internet providers. Card eth0 (192.168.9.250) is the default route
and leads to an SMC router (192.168.9.254). Card eth1 (192.168.1.250)
leads to a Linksys router (192.168.1.1). I''m not doing any NAT or PPPoE
in the workstation - the SMC and Linksys handle it all.
I know four commands that let you set an IP

Watchguard Firebox 1000 woes
We are trying to setup a sip connection behind a Watchguard Firebox 1000 and
it is simply put...not working. The ports are all forwarded but the packets
are not going out. It is as if the firewall simply ignores SIP packets. Has
anyone seen this or have any idea what the issue could be? Watchguard so far
has been of zero help.

Watchguard Firebox 1000 and Asterisk
Has any had any experiences with Watchguard Firebox 1000 and Asterisk. I
have asterisk on public side and phones on the private side. I am able to
get the phones to register and make outbound calls but the inbound calls are
intermittent. I have NAT enable in asterisk and on the Cisco 7960.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks

dapptrace and firefox
/usr/sfw/bin/firefox is a shell script which calls run-mozilla.sh which calls firebox-bin.
Is there a way to call dapptrace on firefox in order to trace firefox-bin?

watchdog firebox has blocked ssh out
I'm behind a watchdog firebox, which has recently
blocked ssh out. I have it to where i can use port
21(the server forwards 21 to 22 that i am trying to
connect to), but somehow the watchdog firewall is also
blocking by protocol type?
the only way i can connect is if i choose raw protocol
in putty... and this is what i get
