Proxy ARP and RH 7.2
I have tried unsuccessfully to run both Shorewall 1.2.x, 1.3.x with
Proxy ARP on a Red Hat 7.2 machine.
The machine was configured as the external firewall as per the ''belt and
suspenders'' layout given at http://www.skippy.net/linux/firewall/
The firewall appeared to function correctly in all functions except
proxy ARP, however I must say I did not test exhaustively.

Proxy ARP working from Internet but not from fw and loc
Hello everybody.
I could not find an answer to my problem in the archive. (But that may just
be me :-) )
I have a problem with proxy arp and connection from loc (localnet) and from
the firewall.
Works fine from internet to dmz / proxy arp and vise versa.
I have a feeling the solution is simple, but I''m no guru in Linux routing
etc.
The problem seems to be the routing setup.

Shorewall 2.0 and Routing
There have been a number of questions recently about Shorewall 2.0 and
routing. In earlier posts, I said that Shorewall 2.0 would no longer alter
the routing table as part of setting up Proxy ARP.
I have been persuaded to take a different approach.
In Shorewall 2.0.0-Alpha2, the HAVEROUTE column has been restored to the
proxyarp file and a new PERSISTENT column has been added. If the

proxy arp & gratuitous ARP reply
Hello,
My apologies if this isn''t the right place to send questions about this
thread.
I have a couple one''s about proxy_arp and gratuitous arp reply frames.
I have setup the proxy_arp parameter on a linux system (kernel 2.4.20).
Now, when I start a M$-Windoze machine it complain about "...duplicated
IP address...".
This is a know behaviour, and the solution is

RE: Proxy ARP working from Internet butnotfromfwand loc
Hi Alex, and thanks for your time.
Probably not.
The servers are only configured like they where when they where parallel to
the fw.
Just the default gateway, same as for the external interface on the fw.
That''s what the documentation instructed to configure the servers using arp.
But is it required with extra configuration on the server connected via
proxy arp?
Or is it some parameter

New Document for People Helping with Shorewall Support
The Shorewall support page advocates including the output of "shorewall
status" with problem reports that involve some sort of connection
problem. I suspect that the number of people who feel comfortable
analyzing problems through use this output is small.
To help, I''ve created http://shorewall.net/AnalyzingShorewallStatus.html
I suspect that the document isn''t

dovecot director terminate ssl ?
I plan on putting two dovecot directors in front of our backend dovecot
pop/imap servers, instead of our current haproxy loadbalancing of the
connections -- but how do we handle SSL in such a setup. Will all SSL be
terminated on the directors automatically, and then proxyed plain text,
or is there any configuration needed to achieve this ?
Does it matter that the directors are v2.0 while the

proxy arp on CentOS 5?
Anybody implemented a working proxy ARP with CentOS 5?
I am trying to implement DNAT on a dual-homed firewall (servers behind
firewall are on private IPs) and that requires proxy ARP. I've tried
several different methods but nothing seems to work.
Any advice? Is proxy ARP broken on v5?

own arp reply?
Hello all.
I wonder if there is a way, to do smth like that:
fot requests like:
arp who-has 192.168.1.13 tell 192.168.4.31
arp who-has 192.168.1.122 tell 192.168.1.31
always answer 192.168.x,x ?
i mean I'd have one machine which would have all the MAC's <>
IS's like ( arp -s IP M:A:C ) And i'd like to give that 'data'
to users, which

Possible (or possibly painful) workaround for FreeBSD-SA-03:14.arp
Of course you should patch/upgrade, etc. A stopgap measure
could be to use static ARP for a segment. I have done this
for a long time with wireless hosts, since I'm in an urban
environment with many visible nodes, some in autos, and
ARP cache poisoning is a well-known DoS against wireless.
You may find it extremely painful and less-than-useful to
have static IP addrs, etc. for hosts.

[HELP] Proxy ARP & OSPF
Hi,
The network topo looks like this:
the original network:
router1 router2
| |
|----------------OSPF------------|
the target network: (we need to insert a transparent firewall between
these 2 routers, so a proxy arp is set up on firewall to bridge
router1 and router2)
