problem getting ulogd and shorewall working on debian
I''m trying to get Shorewall to use ulogd for logging, but I''m not
seeing any logging in either the file I set up for logs, nor in
/var/log/messages (where the logs used to be).
I''m running a stock Debian 3.0 woody system, with a custom 2.4.21
kernel. I used all the settings as described on shorewall.net when
configuring the kernel. ulogd (0.97-1) and shorewall

loc2net no longer working (and I read the FAQ)
Hi all,
This is your standard "I can''t *see* the internet" problem, except I think
I''ve exhausted all the standard solutions. The only thing different is
that my house experienced a power outage and now (after the FW rebooted)
local machines can''t "see" out.
I''ve got a 2-interface setup, using Shorewall 2.0.15 (installed via
Debian).

Shorewall-1.3.13
Just some stuff that was laying around in CVS:
1. Added ''DNAT-'' target.
2. Print policies in ''check'' command.
3. Added CLEAR_TC option.
4. Added SHARED_DIR option.
[teastep@wookie Shorewall]$ cat releasenotes.txt
This is a minor release of Shorewall that has a couple of new features.
New features include:
1) A new ''DNAT-'' action has been

Hello,
Most of the work was done with dovecot 2.2.27 but I just upgraded to

samba time server
Hello,
I'm trying to set up a Linux, rh9, webserver with samba support, so that
user's can make the pages on their windows boxes and drop them right on
the server. I'm having one problem, when the user connects Dreamweaver,
MX version, gives an error about can not determine the server time. I've
added:
time server = yes
to the global section of my smb.conf file, but this

traffic shaping and classes
I''m looking over this traffic shaping available in the tc* files.
I went through this when I did my own traffic shaping outside of
shorewall previously.
For the average (i.e. home, perhaps) user, I''ve never understood why we
use these more complicated shaping algorithms that define classes and
guaranteed minimums and maximums and so forth.
For most home, or other small use

help seeing DMZ from LOC
I have a three interface network (net,loc,dmz).
The internet interface (eth0) has a static IP.
Windows machine in the local network (eth1) use DHCP to get IPs from
the 192.168.10.0/24 netblock.
The Debian machine in the DMZ (eth2) gets a fixed IP through DHCP in
the 192.168.11.0/24 netblock.
The DHCP server is running on the firewall machine (not ideal, I know,

Hardware advice please?
I am quite new to Linux and have moved (almost) from a windoze
NT4 environment.
My present configuration is running SuSE V 8.0 with KDE3.0.5
desktop on two machines, connecting with Samba to an NT4 PC,
and an occasional laptop or other PC that connects locally to the
network.
After a deal of searching, researching, and seeking advice I have
decided to use Shorewall as my firewall.

Redundant and Geobalancing setup
Hi,
I use dovecot for a long time now, but only as a single isolated server
each time.
I joined a company a few years back. We had trouble with compagnies hosting
our mail, supposedly full redundant and so on.
The company is small, but we have many dealers around the world, and it's
growing.
Mail became the fist choice for clients to contact the dealers.
No mail, and we loose sales.

Burn Out
I think that the time has come for me to back off a bit from my
involvement with Shorewall. I just don''t have enough cycles (or energy) to
keep up the pace of the last several months. As a consequence, I''m going
to do the following:
1. I''m going to stop personally supporting the entry level tools (samples
and quick start guide).
These tools are a source of constant
