Two web servers on DMZ zone with private ad dresses. How to?
That log message looks like someone (or some program) is trying to browse to
moreover.com from your web server machine--it''s not a reply to an external
request. You''d see messages like that if you were running some sort of HTTP
proxy server (like Squid) on that box (although they''d likely be to multiple
IPs, unless your users only browsed to p.moreover.com). It could

HTB. QoS and Shorewall
Group,
I am reading about tc (traffic control) and willing to get my feet wet. As requirement, there should be HTB compiled in the kernel. I grabbed a Mandrake 8.2 distro, and didn''t installed the kernel source.
Anyone knows if the HTB is compiled in Mandrake 8.2, or point a way to find that out? I tried to read the /usr/src/kernel.xxxxx/.config file, but it doesn''t exists.

New on the Web Site
While I''m in temporary retirement, I''ve decided spend a little time
experimenting with new things and making some updates to the web site. The
biggest result of this effort to date has been:
http://shorewall.sf.net/Shorewall_Squid_Usage.html
This outlines how to use Squid as a transparent proxy running on the
firewall, in the DMZ or in the local network. In the latter two

DMZ hosts gateway
Hi everyone,
I have a question regarding the default gateway for hosts on DMZ zone. I moved servers from parallel to the DMZ (outside the firewall, directly connected to I-net) to inside DMZ. The default gw for these servers was the DSL router(bridge) of my ISP.
What should be the default gw (for the hosts inside the DMZ), when hosts are inside the DMZ now - still the DSL router (external

Hardware advice please?
I am quite new to Linux and have moved (almost) from a windoze
NT4 environment.
My present configuration is running SuSE V 8.0 with KDE3.0.5
desktop on two machines, connecting with Samba to an NT4 PC,
and an occasional laptop or other PC that connects locally to the
network.
After a deal of searching, researching, and seeking advice I have
decided to use Shorewall as my firewall.

Two web servers on DMZ zone with private addresses. How to?
Two quick questions to the group:
Anyone seen this before:
Jan 14 02:55:45 gw1 kernel: Shorewall:all2all:REJECT:IN=eth1 OUT=eth0 SRC=66.58.99.83 DST=170.224.8.51 LEN=52 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=63 ID=38676 DF PROTO=TCP SPT=1735 DPT=80 WINDOW=5840 RES=0x00 SYN URGP=0
I mean my web server is trying to replay to some external host 170.224.8.51 (p.moreover.com) for some reason. What could be? It

Help! AllowPing not working
Sorry for the frantic nature of this message, but we need to allow pings on
our firewall so our ISP can test things. I''ve done this, and it still doesn''t
work: (I am now at v.2.0.10)
rules:
AllowPing net fw

Can't get port forwarded from net to net
I have followed the instructions at http://shorewall.net/FAQ.htm#faq2
along with some coaching on IRC from _Omache to get a machine (with IP
address 66.93.22.233) to forward all port 25 traffic to another host in
my network (with IP 66.93.22.254). This has not worked. I have tested
by trying `telnet 66.93.22.233 25`, expecting to see the SMTP banner on
66.93.22.254. Of course, I don''t

Memdisk
Memdisk 2.08 cannot boot an XP boot floppy image (XP appears to use WinME
boot files for its bootable floppy). For example:
http://members.iinet.net.au/~bdriver/bootdisk/download.htm
This disk will not boot with Memdisk (Memdisk starts to load the image and
then hangs). I'm using Bart's tools to build a boot CD:
http://www.nu2.nu/corpmodboot/
Which uses Isolinux and Memdisk.

FLAC status
Hi,
How's the testing going? I compressed 194 individual .wav files
(totaling 8.54GB) which contained tracks ripped from many varied albums. I
unflacced them and compared their md5 signature with the same from the
original .wav. They were all perfect. I didn't use the -V option just in
case of any chance of mis-reporting. I hope to test it with the complete
collection of ~41GB

portmap messages under /var/log/messages
I am running Redhat 6.1 as a firewall between a cable modem and my home
network.
Occasionally, I see messages such as these under /var/log/messages:

request from unauthorized host

Vorbis license in non-English languages?
Hi;
I emailed monty@xiph.org about this before I noticed the mailing list
existed; I suppose it can't ask to hurt here too.
We're about to release a product which has support for multiple languages;
as a result, the license text and documentation has been translated into
each of these languages. As the product includes Ogg Vorbis playback using
libvorbis, we've obviously got to

Bug with FLAC raw encoding
I found a bug with FLAC v0.6 raw encoding. It appears that the file
pointer in the source file is not reset after seeking to the end for
checking the size. I've attached a patch.
I'm excited about FLAC!! I've been looking for a good GPL lossless RAW
audio compressor for use with sound fonts. Sound font files contain 16
bit samples that are word aligned, so just treating it as raw

Using private & public addresses together in the Shorewall''s DMZ zone
I have one question:
Can I use routable and non-routable IP addreses together in the DMZ zone?
I read the both three-interfaces setup and the Configuration Guide and each one explains how to do the either way? My problem is that, I have to use the public IP address for my DNS server (cannot change that), and setup additional web servers which will do port-forwarding (DNAT) through the firewall

Memdisk booting XP DOS
Memdisk 2.08 does not appear to be able to boot an XP DOS image (it starts
to boot and then hangs). XP DOS appears to be borrowed from WinME
(v4.90.3000). I was trying to make a multiple boot CD with Bart's method:
http://www.nu2.nu/bootcd/#multimemdisk
but substituting Brads TCP boot disk instead of Barts:

flac worse than shorten
I've found a wav of an entire album that shorten compresses better than
flac. Is this supposed to be possible?
wav 388,374,044
flac-6 239,109,203
shn 236,457,697
Cheers.

The latest version of my cue+wav splitter supports .flac files. Hope to
get it released this weekend. Will eventually be at:

It also supports .shn and .ape. I've seen shorten

I can't get multiple interfaces to work
I've looked through all the doc and searched the list archives, but I just
can't seem to get it to work. I have a Linux box with 5 ethernet
interfaces, 3 of which have winboxes I'd like to include in my little Samba
network. I'm able to get it far enough for each winbox to see the linbox,
but they can't see each other.
Here's my setup:
