Shorewall 1.4.1 is currently in CVS
It''s in the /Shorewall and /Shorewall-docs projects. I plan to run it over
the weekend and release it Sunday night.

PS: Francesca - no need to upgrade the Samples this time since none of the
changes affect the sample configurations (other than the config file
comments).

Warning: Support for the 'detectnets' interface option to be removed from Shorewall-perl
The ''detectnets'' interface option has always been a rather silly feature.
For incoming packets, it duplicates the function of the ''routefilter''
option. It provides no value on output since it enforces the same thing that
the routing table does. In other words, if you set ''routefilter'' and
''log_martians'' you get the same

Shorewall CVS is now at Sourceforge
The Shorewall CVS repository is now hosted on Sourceforge at
http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=22587. Please note that unlike with
the old repository here at shorewall.net, at Sourceforge there is a
delay in updating the ViewCVS (web) copy of the repository. As a
consequence, developer commits are not immediately available for
browsing with ViewCVS

Shorewall site search is now available agai n
Hmm--either the indexing process is still running, or it''s broken again.
It''s 0443 GMT, and I can''t get the search engine to find anything on the
mailing list or the web site (I used ''dns'' as my search term).
It''s not that big of an inconvenience, though--Googling for
''site:shorewall.net dns'' does pretty much the same thing.

Shorewall 1.4.0
Shorewall 1.4.0 is released and is available at both SourceForge and at
the mirror in Washington State. Other mirrors will be updated shortly. The
content of 1.4.0 is the same as 1.4.0-RC3 with the exception of the
updated version number.

shorewall.net may be down for a while today
A violent wind storm is expected in western Washington state later today
and such storms often produce power/communications outages. I''ll do what I
can to keep things running here.

RE: Outlook Web Access behind shorewall firewalldoesn''t work
Thanks for such a quick reply Tom!
Any suggestions then as to what I might do other than putting a second
nic in the SBS and opening it up for web access? I don''t like the idea,
but since MS SBS includes fireall that is actually what MS suggests.

New feature for Shorewall 2.2.3
The following is taken from the Release notes for 2.2.3 (which will be
released in a month or so).
2) There has been ongoing confusion about how the
/etc/shorewall/routestopped file works. People understand how it
works with the ''shorewall stop'' command but when they read that
''shorewall restart'' is logically equivalent to ''shorewall

Script to build Shorewall Release from CVS
In case any of you are interested, I''ve placed my script for building an
entire Shorewall release from CVS into
ftp://shorewall.net/pub/shorewall/contrib/makeshorewall.sh.
The script assumes that the appropriate CVS project has already been
updated with the current version number.
There is currently no mechanism for re-building old releases.
