New automated Capistrano setup for Apache2.1+ and mongrel_cluster
Hi mongrel users! I just posted a bad-ass capistrano file that automates *everything* for setting up an apache2+mod_proxy_balancer and mongrel+mongrel_cluster -- including apache2 setups. It''s based off Coda Hale''s guide and all Bradley''s work at fluxura and RailsMachine (thanks Coda and Bradley!). It''s, well, bad-ass, if I must say so myself. My favorite

Mongrel Upload Progress progress method returns Content-Length: 0
Running into a strange bug using the mongrel upload progress plugin handler, sitting in front of a simple mongrel. The bug appears on an old Xserve (mac OS X 10.3.9 powerpc), but not on my macbook pro, or even a generic 686 linux box. http://pastie.textmate.org/98341 The gist of the pastie above shows that attempts through the browser and curl are actually hitting the filesController, as

committing won''t push to production -- you have tested I assume locally? localhost:3000 shows your changes? if so, I can simply go on to the server where it is deployed and issue: svn export (or svn update) and restart the application for changes to actually propagate. svn log shows your commit, that is all well and good: SeeBQ-MacBook:~/rails_apps/atlrug.org cbq$ svn update U

Updated Apache Best Practices Doc fixes
Hi guys, Thanks to several members I''ve updated the apache best practices docs to include several fixes including the bug reported (by Zed and someone else I believe, sorry for the non-attribution) with IE''s \b instead of b rule for deflate. I also added some success stories from Martins, Phillip Hallstrom, and Jens Kraemer -- and the REMOTE_USER pass instructions from Jon

[PATCH] documentation additions for Apache
I added some stuff for the new pre-release with prefix for serving multiple rails apps, and did some in general updates/maintenance to the apache page. Please if anyone wants to add anything, or have any suggestions, , or if you''ve got some clever apache rules / tools / configs -- let me know, or feel free to pull it down and patch yourself. And also let me know if I''ve missed

[PATCH] Apache Documentation Updates
Hello mongrelians, I''ve had several submissions sent to me regarding the apache documentation on the mongrel site: http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/docs/apache.html I have assembled quite a bit of updates and changes, but if you know of anything that has been useful to you, or that is missing or can be reworded or added (or missing attributes!) please let me know. cheers, -- Charles

index#term_docs returns no docs / term_docs_for does
I''m building my first Filter and I''m running into an issue with Ferret::Index::IndexReader#term_docs. As I understand it, index_reader.term_docs should return a term-document enumerator for the entire index: index_reader.term_docs => empty set However, I''m getting an empty set. Interestingly enough, the following: index_reader.term_docs_for(:name,

#expire_fragment in models...any clean solutions?
I''ve seen a couple of workarounds on the mailing list related to expiring cached fragments inside of models, but nothing too clean. Anybody have any suggestions for handling this at the model-level? I have an application is updated outside of the Rails controllers, so I can''t use a Sweeper. The 2 methods I''ve seen: a. Use a callback to generate an HTTP post on a

Basic HTTP Proxy Authentication: patch update
Hi all, My patch for supporting "Basic" HTTP Proxy Authentication has been updated for rsync 2.5.6 by Martin Ehmsen. The patch changes the interpretation of the RSYNC_PROXY environment variable so that the syntax user:pass@proxy.foo.com:port may be used instead of just proxy.foo.com:port (the old syntax is, of course, still supported). The updated patch is available at:

[patch] Basic HTTP Proxy Authentication
Hi all, I have put together a patch for supporting "Basic" HTTP Proxy Authentication. The patch changes the interpretation of the RSYNC_PROXY environment variable so that the syntax user:pass@proxy.foo:port may be used instead of just proxy.foo:port (the old syntax is of course still supported). The patch has only been tested lightly, but it should(TM) work. The patch (and

Proxy
Thank you all. Except from the buffering it was the fact that I used "localhost" instead of 127.0.0.1 in the proxy_pass. Now my configuration is: location /stream1/ { proxy_buffering off; proxy_ignore_client_abort off; proxy_intercept_errors on; proxy_next_upstream error timeout invalid_header;

versioning of win32 versus ruby gems
I know we already mentioned this before on the list but I couldn''t find it in the archives. Is there a way to differentiate the versions for ruby/mswin32 so that I could run a command like: # sudo gem install mongrel --source=http://mongrel.rubyforge.org/releases/ --include-dependencies --version 1.0 and have it not prompt me like this: Select which gem to install for your platform

bug in xmms plugin v 1.1.2
I, like others here, have noticed that the xmms plugin is broken for first use in version 1.1.2. The problem is confusion between dynamically-allocated and statically-allocated strings. A quick, although perhaps not elegant, fix is included below. Note: you would not see this if you already had a [flac] section in your config file, which probably explains how it escaped the notice of

http streaming in the xmms plugin
Hi, Here's a patch to add support for streaming HTTP transport to the xmms plugin. Most of the code (in particular, http.c) is taken from the xmms mpg123 input plugin. You'll need to make a three-line change to the xmms mpg123 input plugin to get streaming to work. The mpeg plugin currently handles all http urls itself unless they end in an ogg or real audio extension (which means flac

Setting :status for inline RJS?
Is there a way to set the :status when using inline RJS rendering in controllers? Something like: render :status => 500, :update do |page| page.insert_html .... end -- Derek Haynes HighGroove Studios - http://www.highgroove.com Atlanta, GA | San Mateo, CA Keeping it Simple. 404.751.1762

Edit In Place: text with line breaks
All, I need to apply EditInPlace to a block of text that has line breaks. I''d like to have the editable text load instantly by grabbing the text from the page instead of using the "loadTextURL" option. However, this will pull in the html formatting ( <br> and <p>). Wanted to see what ideas the list had as far as making this possible - the best idea I''ve

Any long-time CentOS users on list using Ubuntu as well?
I've gotten roped into helping a local charity with some computing/infrastructure snafus. It seems their last good Samaritan installed Ubuntu all over the place and is "unavailable" now to clean up the mess. CentOS has made me somewhat lazy because everything just works out of the box for the most part and you've got the occasional "yum update". :) These are

Proxy
We've tested this as working relatively well, disable buffering is the major key if I recall. Otherwise the NGINX server loads up data before handing off to the client. server { listen 80; server_name my_dns_name.tldn; location / { proxy_buffering off; proxy_ignore_client_abort off; proxy_intercept_errors on;
