Rate limiting
I am trying to rate limit a particular user/ip''s news traffic and have
added the line
ACCEPT loc:10.5.75.253 net tcp 119 -
- 1/sec:2
While this has slowed down the traffic, it has not throttled it to the
point I would like.
Yet with a sniffer I can see around 15 packets a second going thru. My
T1 is close to saturation, and I would like to

logging
I would like to cut down on packets logged from "loc2net". I have modified
my policy file so that the logging for loc2net is "err" but dns packets and
smtp are still being logged. Is it possible to filter these out?
On a separate note, if I define ULOG in policy, I get an error on shorewall
startup "ULOG not defined" or something of that nature. Sorry about being

Problems managing remote SAMBA printers from Windows
Hi All,
Hope someone can help. Have tried diligently all the "self-help"
avenues I can find, as well as asking for help on the user forums for my
distro.
Here's the situation.
Running SAMBA server on a libranet Linux 2.8.1 box (Debian based
distro). Have SAMBA 2.2.3a-12.3 for Debian installed and running.

Slow write times to gluster disk
Hi Soumya,
We just had the opportunity to try the option of disabling the
kernel-NFS and restarting glusterd to start gNFS. However the gluster
demon crashes immediately on startup. What additional information
besides what we provide below would help debugging this?
Thanks,
Pat

problems
In the last 15 minutes I have had a major firewall running Shorewall display
some problems. This machine has been working fine for the better part of a
year, no changes made in the last week. This machine has three zones. There
is a DNAT running from the net zone and the loc zone to a webserver in the
dmz port 80 only. The DNAT from the loc zone seems to not be working
correctly. If I make a web

rsh with passwords
I am doing rsync over a private network. Encryption is not required.
Currently rsync over ssh works, but requires too many CPU cycles
(especially when doing a lot of transfers) on a CPU-bound system. I need
to use rsh instead.
The problem is, I can either set rsh to allow transfers without a
password, or it won't let me transfer files at all.
I need rsh to ask for a password. The network

norfc1918 not working in SW 2.2.1?
Hello all,
Yesterday I noticed that my system was "leaking" traffic towards the
10/8 network, I have shorewall installed on multiple machines ranging
from single interface devices to ones with 10+ interfaces. I tested all
the boxes and they are showing the same behavior.
All systems are CentOS 3.4, 2.4.21-27.0.2.ELsmp.
Shorewall version: 2.2.1

asterisk security....again
Hi all,
The problem I have been experiencing since last month is that some of my
customers are getting calls with "Asterisk <Unknown>" caller id. Most of
them in the middle of the night. And my asterisk server has no record of
these calls. The customers were getting irritated as you can imagine. I
guessed the only way to receive incoming calls by by-passing the
registration server

nessusd on shorewall
Hi,
I have shorewall version 1.4.10g on Redhat 9 Local clients are on eth1
in subnet 192.168.3.0/24. eth0 is for the outside (over xdsl with
includes a ppp0 interface).
Nessus (nessusd) is installed *on the firewall* and managed trough
nessus (the client or frontend) running on one of the internal machines.
When I was running a scan against 194.152.181.36 I observed several

[SOLUTION/Summary] ..all my routing / VPN problems.
Right, time to (as someone said) put this thread to a proper rest.
Some of you have probably read my VPN/Routing/Lost packages hassles in the
last week, well, here is the rundown.
Look at http://statler.mupp.net/shorewall/Layout.jpg
Basically.
The shorewall knows the route to the .224.0/24 net is through .221.221.
The systems in .221.0/24 has the FW as their default gw.
The FW could reach

allow ssh access from net to fw?
Hi,
I''m trying to enable ssh (when that works, want to add:pop3s,smtp,web) from
the internet to the firewall but it does not work.
I managed to DNAT ftp to a host in the loc network (192.168.0.50) successful
but I don''t know why SSH:
Does not work for me:
ACCEPT net fw tcp 22
Works from the loc network:
ACCEPT loc fw tcp 22
I have tried also with (no success):
