Monitoring KVM Machine Uptimes
Hey folks.
Currently, I am working on an accounting-solution for Private Cloud with
Eucalyptus as my bachelor-thesis. Eucalyptus bases on libvirt providing
the KVM machines. Part of the thesis is kind of measurement for the
uptimes of each instance in the cloud.
As Eucalyptus is based on libvirt, i want to know if there is kind of
tool already setup for monitoring a vm in terms of uptimes,

cpuspeed settings??
Hey, folks,
Sometimes my workstation bogs down... slows to a crawl. Using gkrellm,
it's obvious the CPU is the laggard. The top utility confirms: the load
average gets up over 4 at times. But this occurs when cpu stepping pegs
the speed at 600MHz. This processor is capable of 1.5GHz and when it's
allowed to run at that speed, the load average is under 2, which is fine.
So the

Syncronize systemctl status with reality?
The particular issue is with puppetmaster (which admittedly takes 4 minutes to actually start, setting TimeoutStartSec=300 in it's unit file stopped the false timeout report) but I have seen it one other time (don't remember the details).
systemctl status puppetmaster

selfsigned ssl certificate
Hello,
I need to setup a secure ssl site but I'm using a FC3 howto wich is not
compatibel anymore wwith Centos 4.2
Now I removed the standard crt.key and server.key files and used the make
testcert script in /etc/httpd/conf to create a new one with the appropriate
company name and such.
But this certificate requires a passphrase everytime apache starts and I
rather would like to remove

flush-btrfs-1 hangs when building openwrt
Hi,
Since update to 2.6.37 I can''t build openwrt on my btrfs buildroot anymore.
I''m not sure if this is related to the other flush-btrfs-1 thread.
plenty of diskspace is free:
/dev/mapper/cruor-build
97G 68G 27G 73% /opt/build
It always hangs when openwrt builds the ext4 image and runs tune2fs on it.

Uptime/reliability with SER, Asterisk
Could anyone shed any light on how SER and/or Asterisk (stable branch)
has held up for them in that last while?
Are you using SER and/or * in a production environment? Do you ever
restart the software or reboot the system? How many users are
utilizing the system? How many calls per day/concurrently?
I read some uptimes and such on the mailing list from long ago, so I
was wondering what some more

smux service (port 199)
Hi,
when I run a nmap localhost I see that port 199 is open for the smux service
but when I check the services gui in runlevel 3 or 5 I don't find it. It's
also not in /etc/init.d/
At the moment almost everything is inactive except for some well known
services like httpd crond etc. but mux is still there.
Does anyone know how to colse this service?

cpuspeed on centos 5
It appears as cpuspeed is not running on my centos 5 box(s).
One is a biostar motherboard Am2 6400+ the other is Asus am2 4800+.
If I do "service cpuspeed stop" it says OK,
If I do a "service cpuspeed start" is says OK.
However at no time is cpuspeed running.
/proc/cpuinfo only shows the cpu running at 1000 Mhz.
If I manually run "cpuspeed -C & " I now have

[BUG 1282] time jump on live migrate root cause & proposed fixes
Hi,
I have done some debugging to find out the root cause of bug 1282, which
has the following symptoms with paravirtualized guests:
- after a live migrate, the time on the guest can jump
- after a live migrate, the guest "forgets" to wake up processes
- after a domU save, dom0 reboot and domU restore, the time is
correct but processes are not woken up from sys_nanosleep
The problem

sempron 2500+ running at 1044 cpu speed.
I have a desktop unit with a sempron 2500+ to play with.
doing "more /proc/cpuinfo" indicates cpu Mhz as1044 not the 2500
I am familiar with cpuspeed. doing ps ax | grep cpuspeed resulting in
nothing.
I did service cpuspeed start. No errors reported.
ps ax | grep cpuspeed resulted in nothing.
I was going to do "killall -SIGUSR1 cpuspeed" to attempt to get 2500+
cpu speed.

correct way to set centos 5 amd64 to performance mode
what is the correct way to set an AMD64 CPU into performance mode at
boot time?
I have tried doing service network cpuspeed start, then killall -SIGUSR1
cpuspeed
and this works but I cant get it working this way at boot. I have set
chkconfig cpuspeed on but that
didnt seem to help.
I just want this particular machine to boot in performance mode and stay
there.

cpuspeed causing hangs on warm boots
We are using CentOS-4.3 (x86_64) with Opteron servers, and noticed a
problem with cpuspeed:
If we reboot by doing "# reboot" or similar from a shell, the boot will
hang not long after cpuspeed starts. The machine freezes: ctrl-alt-del
doesn't work, and only pressing the reset button or a power cycle will
restart the machine.
If we reboot from power-up or by pressing the reset

Forcing domU''s to never hibernate
Hey, list --
Recently we had to reboot some of our dom0''s. We were confused after doing
so to discover that some of the resident domU''s had not actually rebooted.
Some of the domU''s still had very long uptimes (weeks/months), despite the
dom0 having an uptime of just minutes.
Apparently, when the "shutdown -r now" command was issued, the dom0 was able

Moving data between R and Matlab back and forth?
Hi to the list,
I am trying to find a way to painlessly move structured data back and
forth between R and Matlab (also Octave). For this purpose I found the
R.matlab package great help. I wish to use a Matlab -v6 MAT file as an
intermediary format, because it is well read by both Matlab and
Octave. It is also well read by 'readMat' function in R.matlab
package, but that is where I run

Kernel-utils stupidities (readahead and cpuspeed)
Hi all,
I think I've spotted a few stupidities (bugs) in the current version of
kernel-utils (kernel-utils-2.4-13.1.80). I'm sure these are all propagated
from upstream, but I hope someone could have a quick look to verify this and
see if we either can push complaints upwards, or provide local fixes.
The kernel-utils package provides several 'kernel-type' functions -

Accumulating CPU load from Xorg process with DRI3
I observed this bug for quite some time, but so far I workarounded it
with just setting DRI2 (default) in xorg.conf.d/20-nouveau.conf
Now with two GPU i iwsh to use DRI3, so right now it set up like this:
cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nouveau.conf

Identifier "Card0"
Driver "nouveau"
Option "PageFlip" "1"
