Symlinks deletion behaviour
Hi List, hi Samba-team, Recently I've faced some problem with directories deletion trough Samba and trying to clarify the root cause. The following happens: 1. There is a directory my_dir and symlink to it my_dir_link drwxrwsr-x 48 myuser mygroup 20480 Mar 18 21:53 . drwxr-xr-x 33 root root 0 Feb 28 17:37 .. drwxr-sr-x 2 myuser mygroup 4096 Mar 18 21:47 my_dir lrwxrwxrwx 1

Empty folder deletion issue - Samba 4.15 thru 4.18
Encountering a strange one... has been occuring since samba 4.15.x and continues to occur even in 4.17.5 and 4.18 Issue does not occur in earlier versions (4.13.x) and have switched back and forth between versions to confirm. Servers are winbind joined, PAM and krb5 auth, all seems to work fine (reading, writing, creating, moving) until trying to delete an empty folder on the share from Windows

PR#1132.
Just now I again had occasion to want nested describe lists in a documentation file. I found that the bug which I reported on 18 October, 2001 still persists. I checked on the bug report at the R web page, and found that the notes say ``Not a problem in R 1.4.0 (2001-12-08)''. Well, it's still a problem for me --- using R 1.4.1. Backing up tdb files
I am trying to determine which tdb files must be backed up in order to perform a proper system restore. I am running Centos's samba-4.9.1-6.el7.x86_64 as a PDC. There is a basic backup routine which backs up all files under /var/lib/samba but this appears to be wasteful, especially as gencache.tdb keeps growing until I delete. I can find a Samba3 reference at

Active Directory authentication no longer works
Hello all, I have 3 Linux boxes all authenticating against 2 Windows 2003 domain controllers. Each Linux box is running a different Linux and samba version: Box1: CentOS 3.4 3.0.25-7 Box2: CentOS 4.4 3.0.10-1 Box3: CentOS 5 3.0.23c-2 Their smb.conf and krb5.conf files are all identical (below). A few days ago authentication stopped working and my /var/log/messages fills up with

winbind offline login - NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER (0xc0000064)
Hi All, I tried multiple topics and did some further analyzing regarding this. I found that described error below only appears if I restart the device when connecting from "online" to "offline". If I keep my device running winbind caches the users correctly. Based this I found the following bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1165461 There the

Ways to make "smbd" use less memory?
I?m looking for ways to make a ?smbd? daemon use less memory. Typically on our system each process uses 160-200MB virtual memory with ~120-140MB as RSS. Now with ~1400 such processes (and clients connected) this uses a lot of memory? Even though some may be shared. It doesn?t look like a memory leak though since it?s pretty stable at those levels. But it still feels pretty bloated... This

CTDB and locking issues in 4.4.6 (Classic domain)
Hi list We recently upgraded our fileservers from Centos supplied 4.2.10 to Sernet 4.4.6, and then our DCs from 3.6.x to 4.4.6. It seems that since then we've had problems with locks not being obeyed on all nodes - they only seem to work when a second client opens a file on the same node as the first client. For example, when a user opens an Excel file I will see something like this
