Redhat firewall problem...
I've just tried setting up a Shrike (9) version of Redhat. Using the
medium settings of lokkit, then adding manually accept commands for
ports 137/udp 138/udp, 139/tcp and 445/tcp, I thought I should have been
ready to go.
This isn't the case, however. I know it's not the smb.conf settup
because when I kill iptables samba works.
When iptables IS running however, it will respond

shorewall question
I am currently using shorewall on leaf-bering. I have set it up with
keepalived to create a high availabilty firewall cluster. I have an odd
question in regards to shorewall. Currently in production I have
keepalived controlling shorewall starts and stops. If I remove this and
leave shorewall running on the backup firewall, will I run into any
problems with having the nat tables built out and

Running two shorewall processes.
When shorewall starts up does it completely flush any other iptables
rule sets or nat entries that are already in there?
Or
Can I run two instances of shorewall each loading a different set of
rules and a different set of IP addresses in the NAT table and have each
one only control what it adds?

Firewall IPtables to use the SAMBA server
Hi,
This question is about how to set up the firewall iptables in
sysconfig? I have my firewall set to high and have no luck connecting
to the SAMBA server (a low firewall works fine). I feel this is because
the port is being blocked. I used Lokkit to generate the iptables and
set the level to high. I also found on the SAMBA site what ports are
used, unfortunately I don't know what to add

Configuring the firewall on CentOS
Is there a CentOS equivalent to config-system-firewall in Fedora,

firewall issue
I'm running a icecast-ices server on my isp connection at home. I've two
pcs (duron 700/512Mb RAM and a k6-2 350/360Mb RAM), a optical fiber
10MBit connection but...I'm connected to the internet through a NAT
router which I can't configure (all incomings connections aren't mapped)
so in theory I can't run servers on any kind..
Is there a cheap solution for this

Slow file transfers from server to XP clients
Hey everyone, I'm sure this topic has been discussed, but I've looked
through history and done google searches and just haven't found a resolution
yet so I'm hoping the experts can help me.
Running Fedora Core 5 and Samba ??? Not sure the version off-hand.
Clients are XP Professional
The problem is miserably slow file transfers from the server to the XP

firewall question
My firewall config is below...
I am trying to figure out why another machine has access to port 5038 on
my machine
based on these firewall rules.
I thought the reject at the bottom would take care of all other ports?
It does not.
I have restarted with "server iptables restart" and same thing. I can
connect from another machine
to my machine on port 5038. How do I prevent this?

[LLVMdev] [PATCH] Do not generate nopl instruction on CPUs that don't support it.
Hi
This patch fixes code generation bug - 586-class CPUs don't support the
nopl instruction and some 686-class CPUs don't support it too.
I created bug 17792 for that.
BTW. I think you should also optimize padding on these CPUs - instead of a
stream of 0x90 nops, you should generate variants of "lea (%esi), %esi"
instruction like gcc.
This patch disables generation of

[a bit off-topic] oggenc crashes my K6-200 box
I've noticed that oggenc reliably crashes my K6-200 box after a few minutes of
encoding. Has anyone else experienced crashes like this?
Surely it must be a hardward fault, or perhaps a K6 problem (this processor
has some errata). Still, I'm surprised that nothing else I do with it seems
to hang it.
Has anyone else seen anything like this?

Correct way to update Asterisk
Pardon the newbie post. I installed Asterisk on a "test" system using
the Asterisk@home cd image. When you boot from Asterisk@home is installs
an O/S and Asterisk on your PC. How cool is that. But I was wondering if
someone could point me in the right direction for updating the version
that I have.
I'm new to CVS, how do I determine what version to build? Is there a
primer on how to

Connection refused
Hi,
Here is my situation : I have installed Samba 2.0.6 on my computer, which is
running with Linux RedHat 6.0.
When somebody tries to connect to this server, he's got a 'refused
connection' message after he tried to my_IP@:139.
I don't think the smb.conf is responsible because we have tried with the
basic one, and it doesn't change anything.
As I'm fresh in Linux (and

Help with parsing a data file
Hi All,
I need to parse data from a file, example shown below. The first two lines
can be skipped, the third line contains the column names. The next 13 lines
can be skipped. The next line "1991" is a year value, with the following 13
values data for that year. The file then repeats this format with (year, 13
lines of data for that year). I would ideally like to end up with an
