Oracle SQL*Net through Shorewall
Hello all, I am a newbie to Linux firewalls, and am trying to setup shorewall to allow connections from an Oracle client to an Oracle Server. The client tries to connect to the server via port 1521 (it works fine) and once the first connection has been successful, the server sends a redirect to the client to a random high port. So, when the client tries to connect again to the sevrer on that port

shorewall.net down time
Today I am having a new DSL line installed. Once the line is in and operational, I will be moving my local network from the old line to the new; I am expecting minimal down time (an hour or two) but as those of you who have been involved in such things know, there is no way of knowing what disasters are going to happen. Services impacted will be: http://shorewall.net (a.k.a.,

Upgrade Disaster
Today I upgraded my server to RH9.0. For some unexplained reason, while I was applying updates from RedHat the server crashed and now my RPM database is toast ("rpm -q glibc" says that glibc isn''t installed and rpm -qa generates 100''s of error messages; this is after an ''rpm --rebuilddb''). Tomorrow morning, I will be backing up my server and

rsync shows poor throughput vs. scp
hi all- been reading through the archives but I still can't seem to find a solution to my problem. I am using rsync to keep mirror copies of content which is being served (via http) on both the sender and receiver. The files on average are 20-50mb each, (mostly already in a compressed format... mp3, etc) and both sender and receiver pushes around 30mbps on average. the sender is a

Greetings all, I have been working with RStudio and R only for a little while. I came across a package called 'reshape' that helped me 'rename' columns. Unfortunately, my computer got hosed (too much playing with linux too late at nite) and I had to re-install everything, BUT when I tried to reinstall 'reshape' or 'reshape2' I COULDN't. Is there a way to get

Incoming calls from IAXTEL over NAT
Hey all, I was playing around with IAXTEL last nite and have outgoing calls working a treat. I'm sure I woke a few people up in the US with my annoying test calls. :) Anywayz, incoming calls are a different matter. I have a NAT firewall my * box is sitting behind and the server 'appears' to have registered correctly with IAXTEL. Thing is, when I try and call my 1700 number
