SuSe 9.1 startup issue
Tom, I am NOT subscribed (yet). I dropped SuSeFirewall2 in favor of shorewall to get past the configuration hurdles I as experiencing. At the moment, when my SuSe 9.1 starts up, I can see shorewall processing the rules, policies, etc. and I see no errors and then moves on with the rest of the SuSe boot process . However, no traffic passes through using the rules. I run an iptables -L and I

[Shorewall-users] Redirect loc::80 to fw::3128 not work (fwd)
I''m beginning to believe that the use of the last column in the rules file to designate redirection/forwarding is too subtle for many users. For 1.3, I think I''ll do something like the following: Current rule: ACCEPT net loc:192.168.1.3 tcp 80 - all New rule: FORWARD net loc:192.168.1.3 tcp 80 Current rule: ACCEPT net fw::3128 tcp 80 - all New rule: REDIRECT net

problem with masquerading with shorewall
Hello, I''m not sure if this has been asked before but I would like to ask assistance for this problem I have. I installed gentoo for my firewall/gateway and installed dhcp and shorewall. Currently, I can ssh, ftp, remote desktop connect, ping, etc (anything I can think of) from an internal computer inside my network to an external IP, except I cannot surf the net. I can ssh/ftp to

Shorewall redirect with Squid and Dansguardian
Hi all, I''ve just built Mandrake 10.1 on a Compaq Deskpro that I''ve built as a router/firewall and am redirecting port 80 outbound to force users through the Content Filter. I''ve run this setup on Mandrake 9.0 and 10.0 without any problems but this time the following happens. Squid is accessed through port 3128 and Dansguardian via 8080. If I set my browser on a

Squid as a transparent proxy
Hi, I followed the instructions in the section "Squid (transparent) Running on the Firewall" on http://www.shorewall.net/Shorewall_Squid_Usage.html to setup Squid transparently on a Linux gateway. My net is as follows: loc subnet --- fw Linux Gateway --- ADSL router 192.168.1.0/24 192.168.1.92 (eth1) WAN.WAN.WAN.2 (gw = WAN.WAN.WAN.WAN (eth0) 192.168.1.92) (gw =

Bridging and transparent proxy
Hi all, is it possible configure Shorewall in bridge mode and, in the same box, utilize Squid in transparent mode? I''m triing to do this, but the REDIRECT rule doesn''t work. I''ve already read http://www.shorewall.net/bridge.html to configure the bridge and work fine for me, but when I add the rule for transparent proxy

Shorewall and squid not wokring together
Hi everybody. We are running Shorewall and Squid on Suse on the same box. Each is working fine independently, but we can''t get them to cooperate. The access log in squid shows no requests when Shorewall is on. Here are all the changes we made in the configuration files. Everything else is the same. We have read through the mailing list and the guide, but still haven''t figured it

maclist or rule question
Hi, I want to automate some of the maclist and rule functionality: User connects to the network and gets a DHCP address from the shorewall box. Using squid and redirection, all the user can do is go to a login page on the firewall User logs in correctly to the form on the webpage and a process captures MAC and IP address info from the dhcpd.leases file Once authenticated, a maclist entry and an

ShieldsUp scan
Hi, I''m a home user who doesn''t understand the workings of the Shorewall firewall (or the linux OS on which I''ve just installed it) very well. Having just installed Shorewall 1.4.6c with a default "home user" configuration I gave it a run against the online ShieldsUp scan. Main surprise was that the ICMP echo was enabled. I''ve since gone into

Fw: setting an exception source to a redirect rule?
I recently setup shorewall on my freshly rebuilt router box. I setup transparent proxying using transproxy/dansguardian/privoxy/squid. My current rules for the redirect are: REDIRECT loc 81 tcp www - !192.168.100.0/24 ACCEPT fw net tcp www How do I set this so that all the request are redirected except for requests FROM a certain machine (192.168.100.11)?
