Test suite failures in R-devel_2017-02-25_r72256
Hi, I tried compiling the latest pre-release for R 3.3.3 for the NixOS Linux distribution [1], but the build fails during the "make check" phase because of the following 2 issues: 1) The "tools" test in "tests/Examples" requires network access, which it doesn't have in our build environment. Therefore, it fails as follows according to

Shouldn't "Loading" be "Attaching" when referring to library() calls?
require() and library() both emit this message immediately before running library(): "Loading required package: %s" https://github.com/r-devel/r-svn/blob/4198a2941b702d965bb2374c2b908f48c369f40a/src/library/base/R/library.R#L967-L968 https://github.com/r-devel/r-svn/blob/4198a2941b702d965bb2374c2b908f48c369f40a/src/library/base/R/library.R#L684-L685 Shouldn't "Loading"

isLoadedNamespace() sounds fine to me.. performance gap between R 1.7.1 and 1.8.0
Dear R-help, A colleague of mine was running some code on two of our boxes, and noticed a rather large difference in running time. We've so far isolated the problem to the difference between R 1.7.1 and 1.8.0, but not more than that. The exact same code took 933.5 seconds in 1.7.1, and 3594.4 seconds in 1.8.1, on the same box. Basically, the code calls boot() to bootstrap fitting mixture

A isNamespaceLoaded() function would be a useful thing to have in general if we are interested in readable code. An efficient implementation would be just a bonus. How do I call a masked function in a package without a namespace?
Hello, I work with two packages sna and graph from CRAN resp. Bioconductor. Both packages have a function called "degree". Therefore one of the functions is masked by the other and which one gets called depends on the order of loading. The problem is that both package do not have a namespace, therefore calling the masked function with "package::degree" does not work.

R cmd check error reg namespace
Hi, When running R CMD check I'm getting a number of errors that I don't quite follow and don't know where to start looking for an answer, any hints appreciated. How to get the namespace of a function?
I declared the environment of the function myfun to be NULL as follows: environment(myfun) <- NULL Later on I called that myfun and got an error message because the function index() in the zoo package was called inside myfun and was not visible: Error in myfun(args) : couldn't find function "index" I tried to use zoo::index() instead of index(), but that did not work. In fact,

Error: package or namespace load failed for ‘utils
Hi, When starting an embedded R I encounter the following issue under certain conditions: ``` Error: package or namespace load failed for ?utils? in if (.identC(class1, class2) || .identC(class2, "ANY")) TRUE else {: missing value where TRUE/FALSE needed ``` (more such errors for grDevices, graphics, and stats) And in the end: ``` Warning messages: 1: package ?utils? in

RMySQL Load Error: package/namespace load failed for 'RMySQL'
Hi, I am brand new to the world of R, so please bare with me while I goof my way through a question. I am attempting to trial using R with MySQL. The MySQL server is on a Linux box and I am using the Windows (32bit XP) version of R. I have installed RMySQL successfully, however when I load it I get the error: Error : .onLoad failed in loadNamespace() for 'RMySQL', details: call:

Problem understanding behaviour of versionCheck for loadNamespace (and when versions for Imports packages are checked)
Hi Duncan The difference is that in your call to loadNamespace, the versionCheck list has 3 components (name, op and version), whereas the documentation only mentions 2 (op and version). loadNamespace 'works' for me provided I add a third component to the list (even a nonsense one). What I haven't yet had the fortitude to do is track down through the code to see what the arguments

Problem understanding behaviour of versionCheck for loadNamespace (and when versions for Imports packages are checked)
Many thanks Duncan for the quick response. A bug is a relief in a way. I've been digging my way deeper into this (and learning more as I go) for several days now - but it is a diversion from (a diversion from) my main goal :-( Is there somewhere specific I should report or log the bug or will that happen from this mailing-list automatically? (I have seen the Bug Tracking link on the

Problem understanding behaviour of versionCheck for loadNamespace (and when versions for Imports packages are checked)
Hi I'm still exploring the R programming universe, so if this is being asked in the wrong place, or in the wrong way (e.g. too verbose or lacking in crucial detail or in the wrong format) please let me know I am trying to understand when the version constraints for packages which appear in the Imports field of a DESCRIPTION file are checked. Along the way I've hit a snag
