3ware 9650SE drivers for CentOS 5.0-EL kernel 2.6.18-8
Hi,
I'm trying to install K12LTSP based on CentOS 5.0-el 32bits kernel
2.6.18-8 on a server with 3ware 9650SE raid controller. Does anybody
know where I can find a driver diskette for the raid controller as this
is only supported from kernel 2.6.19.
Thanks for any help

Motherboard + 3ware 9650SE suggestions
Hello everyone!
Working on putting a storage server together and wanted to get some input as
to what motherboards have been working for people with the 3ware 9650SE-12ML
raid board. This is large, bulk storage, 2-tier stuff. This will not be
used for realtime editing of video or something, but a gig nic is almost a
given I hope.
I have an AMD chip available (AM2 slot) but I can get a new chip

Centos 5 [Beta] on 3ware 9650se controller
Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that CentOS 5 Beta (or likely final)
supports the 3ware 9650se card. Since 3ware hasn't released a driver disk
yet, I put one together. It supports CentOS 5 Beta, and may/should support
Final. If anyone is interested, I've posted it here:

3ware 9650 issues
I've been having no end of issues with a 3ware 9650SE-24M8 in a server that's
coming on a year old. I've got 24 WDC WD5001ABYS drives (500GB) hooked to it,
running as a single RAID6 w/ a hot spare. These issues boil down to the card
periodically throwing errors like the following:
sd 1:0:0:0: WARNING: (0x06:0x002C): Command (0x8a) timed out, resetting card.

CentOS 6.0 and 3ware 9650SE series RAID Performance
Hello,
Does anyone have experience using a 3ware 9650SE series raid controller on
CentOS 6.0?
I am getting very sporadic throughput with moderately sized files (0.5-2GB)
on ext3. I have tried most of the mount time tuning options:
* noatime
* trying different journal types
* setting commit=120 - helped a little
Even after these optimizations it doesn't seem like the raid array is
working

3Ware 9690SA
I successfully installed CentOS on 3ware 9650SE controller. Due to some
issues with compatibility with my motherboard, I replaced it with a
9690SA.
Now the system won't boot (although interestingly enough, it find the
boot menu fine, just won't boot past a certain point in the bootup phase.
I thought I would reinstall, but anaconda doesn't find the raid array.

CentOS5, kernel update and 3ware driver
I'm using CentOS5 64bit on a system with a 3ware 9650SE card.
I installed the OS using the driver disk files provided by 3ware. It
worked fine with the original CentOS5 kernel.
After doing a "yum update", which also installed an updated kernel, the
system didn't work after a reboot, using the new kernel.
I rebooted the old kernel, moved the 3w-9xxx.ko file from

[OT/HW] hardware raid -- comment/experience with 3Ware
Greetings,
I am looking for a hardware raid card that supports up to 4 SATA II
hard disks with hot swap (compatible raid cage)
I have short listed two LSI/3Ware cards:
1. 9750-4i
2. 9650SE-4LPML
Both appear to be well supported in Linux.
I would appreciate your personal experience with the CLI tools
provided by LSI.
Can they be configured to send email for disk failures or SMART errors?

3Ware 9650SE tuning advice
Hello fellow sysadmins!
I've assembled a whitebox system with a SuperMicro motherboard, case,
8GB of memory and a single quad core Xeon processor.
I have two 9650SE-8LPML cards (8 ports each) in each server with 12 1TB
SATA drives total. Three drives per "lane" on each card.
CentOS 5.2 x86_64.
I'm looking for advice on tuning this thing for performance.
Especially for the

How to diagnose "Unable to handle kernel paging request" kernel panic?
Does anyone know how to diagnose the error "Unable to handle kernel
paging request at virtual address xxxxxx"?
I got this error (followed by a panic and a crash) on a server
running CentOS 4.4 with the 2.6.9-42.0.8.ELsmp kernel. The machine
is based on an Intel 975XBX2 motherboard (975X chipset). I have
built several of these and they have been extremely stable. This one

1.8.4 and write-through cache
Afternoon
I upgraded our oss''s from 1.8.3 to 1.8.4 on Saturday (due to
https://bugzilla.lustre.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22755) and suffered a
great deal of pain.
We have 30 oss''s of multiple vintages. The basic difference between them is
* md on first 20 nodes
* 3ware 9650SE ML12 on last 10 nodes
After the upgrade to 1.8.4 we were seeing terrible throughput on the
nodes with

3ware 9650SE success
I had posted a question recently on this list regarding the new series of
cards from 3ware, and wanted to follow up with some real-world results.
My test motherboard was an Intel D945GTPLKR (a desktop board). I was able to
use the motherboard video and plug the 3ware card into the PCIe x16 slot. The
card I was testing with (16ML) is a PCIe x8 card. Hardware-wise, everything

What would be the lists recommendation for an 8 port controller with

3ware performance in CentOS
Have a look at these pages:
http://www.bofh-hunter.com/2008/06/13/3ware-performance-in-centos/
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=444759
I'm comparing the default 5.1 64bit kernel with the patched one posted
in the bug report (kernel-2.6.18-53.1.21.el5.bz321111.x86_64) and I
don't quite see any significant difference in write performance for this
command:
dd if=/dev/zero

Centos 5.2 install problem
Hi, I'm trying a fresh install on a x86_64 (Supermicro X7dbe, 2xIntel
Xeon X5450, 8 GB, 3WARE 9650SE-8LPML, 3 disks in RAID 5).
The format takes quite long (2,7 TB), that seems to be normal, but then
the first boot will not take place, instead the system loops. Any hints?
The message follows:

7.0-Release and 3ware 9550SXU w/BBU - horrible write performance
Hi,
I've got a new server with a 3ware 9550SXU with the
Battery. I am using FreeBSD 7.0-Release (tried both
4BSD and ULE) using AMD64 and the 3ware performance
for writes is just plain horrible. Something is
obviously wrong but I'm not sure what.
I've got a 4 disk RAID 10 array.
According to 3dm2 the cache is on. I even tried

OT: Need some riser card advice...
Fellow server-builders out there, this is for you. :) I was trying to
build a cheap JBOD type storage solution running CentOS. Ended up
snagging a Supermicro SC826TQ-R800LPB 2U case (12 drives slots) and a
Supermicro X7DBE-O motherboard. Unfortunately, without thinking I
snagged a 3ware 9650SE-12ML SATA RAID card which is a full height card
and thus does not fit in my case.
I have a few

RAID performance design? /home and os
I'm considering how to design a new file server with a 3ware 9650se RAID
controller. How much
would you estimate the impact to be on sharing /home and the operating
system on one raid 6 set?
/home is mostly read only accesses with a ratio 10:1 read/write. I'm a
little bit concerned that the log writes
in /var/log could impact read performance on /home causing disk head
movements or that a
