Software RAID complete drives or individual partitions
I have been reading about software raid. I configured my first software raid system about a month ago. I have 4 500 Gig drives configured in RAID 5 configuration with a total of 1.5TB. Currently I configured the complete individual drivers as software raid, then created a /dev/md0 with the drives I then created a /file_storage partition on /dev/md0. I created my /boot / and swap partitions on

Software RAID 10?
Hello... I have a server with 4 x SCSI drives and I would like to install Centos 4 (or 5) onto a software RAID 10 array. Do you know if this is possible? I noticed that under the Centos 4.92 beta, RAID 5 is an option but for some reason RAID 10 is not listed. There does appear to be a RAID 10 module.... /lib/modules/2.6.9-42.0.8.ELsmp/kernel/drivers/md/raid10.ko More info I found here:

TightVNC controlling a Mac OSX 10.4.9.
Need some pointers here. I've got CentOS 4.4, and I want to control my OSX 10.4.9 box via VNC. It connects, and I get a little dot for the mouse cursor, but just a black screen. I can see the mouse controlling the OSX desktop... Here's the output when I start in a terminal: [d at f ~]$ vncviewer VNC server supports protocol version 3.889 (viewer 3.3) VNC authentication succeeded

MusicMatch Jukebox-like mp3 player...
Looking for recommendations.... On WinXP, I use MusicMatch Jukebox version 9 for all my tinkering with mp3s. What do you guys use that would match the functionality of MMJB? I'm mainly interested in the music library setup of MMJB... -- --- David Woyciesjes

LVM & Softraid & expansion
I've been reading the RHEL 5 manual/guide linked from centos, and the idea of LVM with expandable partitions seems like a great idea (yes duh why else would it exist if not?). Although the documentation shows a screenshot of how the final setup would look like with LVM & RAID together, it doesn't actually gives the step. 1. Am I correct in thinking it should be done in this way -

Software RAID woes due to GRUB
Hello, I recently cloned an old install from one server chassis to another via rsync. The old setup only had one disk and the new one is set up with two disks in a softraid. I managed to solve the problem and thought I'd present it here to benefit others. attempting to add sda3 to md2 says: mdadm: hot add failed for /dev/sda3: Invalid argument dmesg says: md: could not bd_claim

OT Question about raid 5
Hi List I am hoping that someone here could perhaps give me a straight answer on a question that someone asked me today I have always belived that if you have 5 hard drives 1 50gb second 50gb third 20gb fourth 60gb firth 30gb that the largest would then be the size of the smallest disk, not 80 or 100 or 120 for that matter or am I wrong here? Is anyone using Ext3 on 2.4.x and software raid 5?
Is anyone using Ext3 on a 2.4.x kernel with software raid5? Does it work correctly? Last I checked noone had tried it yet, but that was before I went away on vacation. -- Daniel R. NVidia Quadro4 200/400 NVS CentoOS 4.4
I've put a Nvidia Quadro card in my machine. It was first detected as Quadro4 200/400 NVS. I have the pigtail for dual monitors. I've tried tweaking the xorg file to get it working, to no avail. So I then downloaded the 9631 version driver from Nvidia. The readme for the newer files said that they didn't support this card. I run the installer, it builds the module, but gets

Rosewill RSV-S8 Storage Enclosure Support
I'm trying to get RSV-S8 working with Citrix XenServer 5 update 3 (which I believe runs CentOS 5.something). I have the Rosewill card that comes with it in there (sil3132 based). It's seeing the card, and seeing all my drives. I fdisk the drives and I can create the partitions, but I am unable to set up either software raid or create filesystems. I keep getting errors saying that

chown command goof up
Basically, what I typed was: chown -R user2:user2 * chown -R user2:user2 .* chown -R user2:user2 *.* ...all in /home. Duh. I forgot which way recursive went. So, I then did: chown -R root:root * chown -R root:root .* chown -R root:root *.* ...this time in / to try and f things. Duh again. Other items need to have other owners & groups. So, how can I fix this? In MacOSX, there is a utility

RAID card selection - JBOD mode / Linux RAID
I don't think this is off topic since I want to use JBOD mode so that Linux can do the RAID. I'm going to hopefully run this in CentOS 5 and Ubuntu 12.04 on a Sunfire x2250 Hard to get answers I can trust out of vendors :-) I have a Sun RAID card which I am pretty sure is LSI OEM. It is a 3G/s SAS1 with 2 external connectors like the one on the right here :
