After upgrade people can no longer connect
Hello Tom, I''ve been using Shorewall for years without problems. My previous version of shorewall was 1.4.6b-1. Everything worked just fine. Today I upgraded using rpm to 2.0.8-1. After update no one can connect to any interface from net. Server can connect to outside world fine and those described in routestopped have no problem connecting. Any help correcting this problem would be

norfc1918, routefilter and routestopped
Hi, Using shorewall for the first time (a woody .deb of version 1.2.12). After reading the docs, I still have a couple of questions regarding some parameters from the interfaces file. 1) Is rfc1918 not just a specific implementation of routefilter ? The sample file in two-interface.tgz uses them both, but they seem to at least overlap. Since my internal network will be 192.168.1.0/24, will

Intermittant Samba glitch
Hi there, Let me just start by saying that I am a bit of a Linux newbie, but that Shorewall seems an excellant product. The issue I''m reporting wont stop me from using it, it still does 99% of what I need. Anyway, I have a resonably simple two interface system. My server (HatMannz, P3-900MHz with a RAID-1 array of 80GB IDE drives running Red Hat 9.0) connects to a cable modem via eth1

help seeing DMZ from LOC
I have a three interface network (net, loc, dmz). The internet interface (eth0) has a static IP. Windows machine in the local network (eth1) use DHCP to get IPs from the 192.168.10.0/24 netblock. The Debian machine in the DMZ (eth2) gets a fixed IP through DHCP in the 192.168.11.0/24 netblock. The DHCP server is running on the firewall machine (not ideal, I know, but that''s the way

Differences in masq from 1.4 -> 2.0?
In the panic of replacing our firewall(s) earlier in the week, we ended up moving our original shorewall 1.4 config onto a machine with 2.0.10 already installed, overwriting all the 2.0.10 config files. Most things seem to work fine, except for our masq entries. I''ve examined the default 2.0.10 files compared with our 1.4 files, and can''t spot the problem. What am I missing?

Strange DNAT problems with shorewall 1.4.8
I''ve had some issues with my network, and I''ve had to reconfigure my Gibraltar CD. It runs shorewall 1.4.8, and I have a 2-interface setup, so I downloaded the relevant files from the install page. Masq and such works, but I''m having a problem with my port forwarding. It works for port 22, but it doesn''t seem to work for any other port. I''ve turned

Serious Bug found in Shorewall 1.3.x
Rafa³ Dutko has just discovered a potentially serious bug in version 1.3.0 and 1.3.1. In both versions, where an interface option appears on multiple interfaces, the option may only be applied to the first interface on which it appears. A corrected firewall script for 1.3.1 is available at: http://www.shorewall.net/pub/shorewall/errata/1.3.1/firewall and

Openvpn, bridge and shorewall
Hi, I have a Linux firewall based on shorewall with 2 NIC and ADSL (ppp0). My ppp0 ip is fixed. The internal NIC, eth1, is bridged with tap0, tap1 and tap2 to form br0. br0 subnet is 192.168.2.0/24. The firewall is configured to masq internal traffic and block whatever needs to be blocked. It is also configured to tunnel openvpn v1.6. I have a roaming laptop running XP. I can create a tunnel

Problem with fresh two nic installation on FC3
Hi, I''m having problems with new Shorewall installation on Fedora Core 3 (had same problem with Core 2 and upgrade did not help even iptables was upgraded from 1.2.9 to 1.2.11). I''ve followed two nic example, but starting Shorewall drops all connections and don''t permit any outgoing requests, even with "all allowed" policy. Policy file is below. Current setup

Wireless connectivity issues
Hello, I cannot establish Xserver connection via wireless subnet, while telnet is working fine. There was a similar problem before in Shorewall over IPSEC that Tom had fixed. Also, ping is working, but traceroute is not. Finally, PuTTY gets a connectivity error after couple minutes of inactivity over wireless when connected to the firewall/gateway. Wireless is configured per instructions in

Multiple ISP + traffic shapping = poor download speed
Hello, Thanks for the great Shorewall which has replaced my hard to maintain home-made scripts. First, what works. Our local network is 10.48.X.X with multiple vlan, each on a dedicated interface. We use Shorewall 4.4.11 from Debian Squeeze. We have a 2 ISP: - isp1 : an optical fiber provider with 10 Mbps. - isp2 : a DSL provider with 15Mbits/1Mbits. We use isp2 as the default outgoing

weird fail with conversion to bridges?
I''m converting my network from a "one interface per segment" to a "single connection with vlans", well, some hardware I have requires using different vlan IDs. suffice it to say I need bridges to connect a few different vlans that should all be one but can''t be because of firmware constraints. so my first step is to get shorewall to know about bridges.

norfc1918 not working in SW 2.2.1?
Hello all, Yesterday I noticed that my system was "leaking" traffic towards the 10/8 network, I have shorewall installed on multiple machines ranging from single interface devices to ones with 10+ interfaces. I tested all the boxes and they are showing the same behavior. All systems are CentOS 3.4, 2.4.21-27.0.2.ELsmp. Shorewall version: 2.2.1 For the host mentioned is a single

Vpn Trouble
I am trying shorewall as my previous post With alisias on eth1 loc and 4 pptp client vpns. The odd thing is when I enter one of the vpns in interfaces such as vpn1 it works. But if I enter the vpn in the hosts file shorewall blocks the vpns. shorewall/hosts #ZONE HOST(S) OPTIONS loc eth1:192.168.25.0/24 loctw eth1:192.168.50.0/24 locsa eth1:192.168.75.0/24 vpntw

losing connection
Tom, or whomever reads this, when I say disconnect I mean close out IE6, sorry for so unclear on this point. My IP address never changes unless I unplug the modem. I have had the same IP address for ... well since I had to reset it to hook it up to my Linux box.which was 2 weeks ago. If I set DHCP on my eth1 interface that will contradict the static address I have assigned to it,

Shorewall 1.4.6b
This is a bug-fix roll-up. Problems corrected since 1.4.6: 1) Corrected problem in 1.4.6 where the MANGLE_ENABLED variable was being tested before it was set. 2) Corrected handling of MAC addresses in the SOURCE column of the tcrules file. Previously, these addresses resulted in an invalid iptables command. 3) The "shorewall stop" command is now disabled when
