norfc1918, routefilter and routestopped
Hi,
Using shorewall for the first time (a woody .deb of
version 1.2.12). After reading the docs, I still have
a couple of questions regarding some parameters from
the interfaces file.
1) Is rfc1918 not just a specific implementation of
routefilter ? The sample file in two-interface.tgz
uses them both, but they seem to at least overlap.
Since my internal network will be 192.168.1.0/24, will

Questions: place for doco, and routestopped during ''shorewall restart''
Hi folks,
A while back we had some discussions about integrating heartbeat and
shorewall. Thanks to your help and the excellent state of Linux
failover clustering, i''ve managed to install my high-availability
firewall. I know there''s already a howto for it at
http://www.xenos.net/library/hafirewall.html, but i thought i would
document my setup for others, since it''s

[*] shorewall requirements - which command
Tom,
I''m setting up a new firewall using shorewall-2.0.3a. The box was
installed with the minimum, almost only the kernel.
before installing shorewall, I installed iptables 1.2.9 and iproute2. Then
I did a manual ./install.sh from the directory extracted from the tarball.
When I issued a shorewall start, I received hundreds of errors like:
/usr/share/shorewall/firewall: line 5520:

nessusd on shorewall
Hi,
I have shorewall version 1.4.10g on Redhat 9 Local clients are on eth1
in subnet 192.168.3.0/24. eth0 is for the outside (over xdsl with
includes a ppp0 interface).
Nessus (nessusd) is installed *on the firewall* and managed trough
nessus (the client or frontend) running on one of the internal machines.
When I was running a scan against 194.152.181.36 I observed several

alternative to realtime?
hi
I recently spoke to mr McNamara on IRC, and he mentioned there was a
"far better way to do realtime-stuff than the usual realtime in
asterisk, and that this was GPL". He failed, however, to ever mention
how this could be done, so I just wonder if someone else might know... ?

Shorewall 1.4.10g and 2.0.3b
This is a rollup of fixes to two problems introduced in 1.4.10f and 2.0.3a:
1) Shorewall startup failed under Slackware 9.1. According to John Hill,
this problem can also be corrected by upgrading to mktemp 1.5.
2) Shorewall startup failed if mktemp was not installed.
If you are not experiencing either of these problems then there is no
need to upgrade.
The updates are currently available at:

Shorewall Release Model
The current Shorewall release model has the following characteristics:
a) The last two major releases are supported.
b) Only the latest major release is actively developed.
c) Bug fixes are available for the prior major release but only against
the last minor release.
d) The last major release is advertised as the "Current Release".
I''m thinking of switching to a model that

Excluing from Proxy
Hi,
My Shorewall is 1.4.10g
I have at internet network, rules to transparent proxy, as below:
REDIRECT loc 3128 tcp www
ACCEPT fw net tcp www
I need to exclude a single IP address, for example, 172.16.20.135, from
redirect rules, allowing to access internet without proxy.
How to make it ?

Asterisk monitoring with Nagios and IAX
Hi *,
Does anyone have a lead on a Nagios plugin that speaks IAX or a small
app to do so? I'm trying to set up remote monitoring for my Asterisk
server and only IAX2 traffic is allowed through the firewall. Simply
using check_udp to port 4569 yields no usable answer and Asterisk
complains about receiving a midget packet or something like that :)
