Linux choices ?
First of all, My apologies for this maybe slight OT post, but I have so much confidence and read so much good replies on this list, that I am still asking my question. I''m looking for a linux distribution to use on our school''s homemade routers. The routers are small miniITX based systems with 2 network interfaces. I added a 4 port D-Link network card in some cases, when I

Beginners help
Hello folks, Today I have picked up samba again after years of neglection :) I want to be able to integrate our linux boxes in out windows domain. There are 2 reasons for this. The first reason is backup purposes. I want to be able to access some directories on my unix boxes to copy/backup files to my windows boxes. Until now, the linux boxes gzipped and ftp'd the zip files to the windows

Satellite Providers
Hi All, I am investigating the deployment of VoIP/* in Eastern European areas where there is no PSTN infrastructure. As you can understand DSL/Cable connections are a dream. The only option is satellite. Does anyone know of any satellite providers that have low enough/acceptable delays for VoIP? Thanks, Yiannis.

Suggestions for the xen user''s manual / wiki
Hi, there are two issues wich cost me some time to figure out and maybe it made sense if someone put them into the documentation and / or wiki, because without these addressed my system ran pretty instable and wasn''t very usable. This applies to xen-3.0 and kernel 2.6.12.6-xen: 1) Networking issue With the default bridged setup, networking was quite flaky, e.g. samba access from dom0

DTrace hooks for CPU caps
Hello DTracers, The CPU caps project (http://www.opensolaris.org/os/project/rm/rctls/cpu-caps/) introduces kernel "wait queues" where threads may be placed to enforce caps. I would like to make this visible through DTrace and to add two new probes to the sched provider with the following semantics: cpucaps-sleep Probe that fires immediately before the current thread is placed on a

zpool status keeps telling "resilvered"
Hi! We have a raidz2 pool with 1 spare. Recently, one of the drives generated a lot of checksum errors, so it was automatically replaced with the spare. Since the errors stopped at some point, we figured that the drive itself was not at fault. We offlined it, zeroed it and onlined it again, started resilvering, and manually detached the spare drive. The zpool status is ONLINE and mentions

[PATCH 0/4] ocfs2: bugfix for hard readonly mount
Hi, All, These four patches are all related to ocfs2 on hard readonly mount. patch 1 fix oops when umount ocfs2 on hard readonly device. Because ocfs2_dismount_volume() will call ocfs2_cluster_hangup() and then call ocfs2_stack_driver_put(), will hit BUG_ON(active_stack == NULL). patch 2 fix oops when do ls or cat in ocfs2 on hard readonly device. Because ocfs2_open_lock() will call

MSDOS "System" Attriubute for Folders
I'm having trouble setting the DOS/Windows attribute flag "System" on Samba shared folders. The [Share] level setting "map system = yes" makes the Unix group execute bit be the "System" flag works fine on regular files, but not on directories. There is several ways to make files get the "hidden" attribute, but only way that I've found to set the

Problem with x-ten lite
Dear Group, At the moment I use SJPhone as my soft phone with Asterisk. I prefer the look and feel of the x-ten lite. However, when ever I use my x-ten lite I get a lot of breakup in my communication. E.g. I will play some hold music, and every 5-6 seconds I drop some packets. I don't have the same issue with SJPhone. I'm sure this is a configuration issues, but I can work

Asterisk 1.00 Call quality problem
I upgraded from RC2 last night, but have a major call quality issue. Heres our setup: 1 FXS and 1 FXO card. Incoming/Outgoing calls via IAX trunking from our provider. G729 running between us and the VoIP provider. Two handsets, one BudgetTone 102 and a Cisco 7940G running the 7.2 SIP firmware. Both these phones are using ULAW to the server, and we have plenty of G729 licenses on the server.

Icecast2 Server Load tests
Hello: Ed Zaleski ran some remarkable and very impressive load tests on icecast reported on www.icecast.org (Home page). What wasn't mentioned in the test specifications was the type of internet line that was used which totally influences bandwidth and subesequent overall load characteristics. Questions: 1. Was it a T1 line, Verizon FIOS, or cable internet, or what? 2. What were the
