Shaping questions
Hello Shorewall users,
I have some questions I am hoping someone can answer. I have searched
around the archives but so far I have been unable to find answers. I
am trying to configure traffic shaping on my router/firewall box
running Shorewall 3.0.5/kernel 2.4.31 and have run into some
problems/questions.
My basic set up is: 1500/256kbit ADSL (PPPoE/ppp0) -> Shorewall box

VPN Tunnel
Hi Tom,
I nearly completed the test and installation related to
http://www.shorewall.net/PPTP.htm.
However, there is no serious problem when it is operated as it is in the
general companies, but there is Client Program for MS-Window that is
operated only by Public IP. So I am very concerned about it.
I would like to use Internet through Gateway in (B) as local
computers in (A) receive Public

Traffic shapping Bug ?
hello ,
i''m currently trying to set-up Traffic Shapping with Shorewall and I have strong
feelings that I found a bug.
I may be mistaken, but I tried everything and can''t get it to work.
I''ve turned ON TC_ENABLED=Yes and CLEAR_TC=Yes
when i start shorewall ( shorewall start ), i get this message :

Traffic shaping?
Ok, shaping on Linux is new to me.. so bear with me if i am just stupid.
curtain:/etc/shorewall# grep TC shorewall.conf | grep -v ^#
TCP_FLAGS_LOG_LEVEL=info
TC_ENABLED=Yes
CLEAR_TC=Yes
TCP_FLAGS_DISPOSITION=DROP
curtain:/etc/shorewall#
So it should be enabled, right?

Question on tcrules implementation
Hi all,
I moved wshaper 1.1 cbq file to tcstart, but none of my tcrules are being
observed. The only way I can set the marks is by editing the tcstart file.
Is there a way to incorporate for tcstart to read and apply my set marks in
tcrules?
Thank you,
~Andrew Nady.

allow ssh access from net to fw?
Hi,
I''m trying to enable ssh (when that works, want to add:pop3s,smtp,web) from
the internet to the firewall but it does not work.
I managed to DNAT ftp to a host in the loc network (192.168.0.50) successful
but I don''t know why SSH:
Does not work for me:
ACCEPT net fw tcp 22
Works from the loc network:
ACCEPT loc fw tcp 22
I have tried also with (no success):
AllowSSH

Multi-ISP in 2.4.0
Hello Shorewall list,
I''m a happy Shorewall user since a few years now and everything works fine
for me except one thing that I try to implement since a week, the multi-isp.
I''ve downloaded the 2.4.0 Stable release yesterday and tried the RC2 since a
week.
My config is a Debian running a kernel 2.4.27 home made with the
CONNMARK.diff patch applied
I''m using 2 ISP,

Traffic Control
So after reading the traffic control documentation at shorewall.net I am
a little confused. I don''t understand how to use the tcrules file.
What I would ideally like to do is setup htb on a per user basis (either
by IP or MAC address). If anybody has any hints on the best way to do
this or is willing to explain the use of tcrules file a little better
(how I could mark it per IP or MAC)

shaping torrent traffic
hi
who can ever help me out with the shaping of torrent traffic?
i have a pptp at ppp0 over eth0 (10.0.0.1/8)
i would like to shape outgoing traffic of rtorrent on these two
interfaces, assume rtorrent is running at port 6999
need 3mbit for ppp0 and 50mbit for eth0
i supposed:
[tcclasses]
ppp0 1 2mbit 3mbit 1
eth0 2 20mbit 50mbit 2
[tcrules]

Advice on vlans and pppoe
My telco is moving to feeding me over fiber, breaking out with a media
converter to one Ethernet interface. At present, I am retaining the
static feed over copper on eth0, and taking the two new feeds via vlans
on eth1. I have configured the static IP feed on eth1:790 as vlan 790,
and that seems to be fine, and eth1:780 as the PPPOE feed, and brought
up PPPOE to give me an IP, that is

TC: Simple and complex configs interplay
Hello,
From a user perspective, the simple (tcpri) and complex TC configs
offers two rather distinct choices. A user can very well be OK with
only using the simple way and that''s very fine. Then again, even in
doing so, the more complex config options are available. What is the
interplay between the two as far as having some parameters configured
in both at the same time ? So far

Multiple ISP + traffic shapping = poor download speed
Hello,
Thanks for the great Shorewall which has replaced my hard to maintain home-made scripts.
First, what works.
Our local network is 10.48.X.X with multiple vlan, each on a dedicated interface. We use Shorewall 4.4.11 from Debian Squeeze.
We have a 2 ISP:
- isp1 : an optical fiber provider with 10 Mbps.
- isp2 : a DSL provider with 15Mbits/1Mbits.
We use isp2 as the default outgoing

Shorewall-1.3.13
Just some stuff that was laying around in CVS:
1. Added ''DNAT-'' target.
2. Print policies in ''check'' command.
3. Added CLEAR_TC option.
4. Added SHARED_DIR option.
[teastep@wookie Shorewall]$ cat releasenotes.txt
This is a minor release of Shorewall that has a couple of new features.
New features include:
1) A new ''DNAT-'' action has been

pppoe and /etc/shorewall/interfaces
I am a newbie to linux and shorewall. I am reading the shoreall
quickstart guides. I am a bit confused about the following statement:
----------- quote --------------
The firewall has two network interfaces. Where Internet connectivity
is through a cable or DSL "Modem", the External Interface will be the
ethernet adapter that is connected to that "Modem" (e.g., eth0)
