Linux choices ?
First of all, My apologies for this maybe slight OT post, but I have
so much confidence and read so much good replies on this list, that I
am still asking my question.
I''m looking for a linux distribution to use on our school''s homemade
routers. The routers are small miniITX based systems with 2 network
interfaces. I added a 4 port D-Link network card in some cases, when I

Beginners help
Hello folks,
Today I have picked up samba again after years of neglection :) I want
to be able to integrate our linux boxes in out windows domain. There
are 2 reasons for this. The first reason is backup purposes. I want to
be able to access some directories on my unix boxes to copy/backup
files to my windows boxes. Until now, the linux boxes gzipped and
ftp'd the zip files to the windows

Traffic Priority by IP address..
Hi,
I have a PC that acts as a VoIP gateway using an internet telephony
provider to make phone calls.. Data between me and the provider will
always be from one IP address on my internal network to the provider..
I have a 1Mbps/256Kbps ADSL line and the voice stream is highly
compressed requireing only 30Kbps of bandwidth..
The problem is that when my Mozilla Mail client polls for mail or

[mh@designassembly.de: [Vtun] Windows port]
Just spotted this on the VTun mailing list. Might be interesting, if there
were a TUN/TAP driver for windows it would be a lot easier to make a M$ port
of tinc. Not that I feel much motivation to do so...

zpool status keeps telling "resilvered"
Hi!
We have a raidz2 pool with 1 spare. Recently, one of the drives generated a lot of checksum errors, so it was automatically replaced with the spare. Since the errors stopped at some point, we figured that the drive itself was not at fault. We offlined it, zeroed it and onlined it again, started resilvering, and manually detached the spare drive. The zpool status is ONLINE and mentions

Two samba 2.0.7, one dialup line and excessive connects ...
Hi everybody.
I have to admin two offices, about 500 km apart. Because we're in
Germany and dedicated lines (and even VPN ones over the internet) are
very heavy in cost, we use a dialup ISDN connection. That is online
almost 8 hours a day, but still cheaper.
Now the remote office said that their e-mail was too slow and I
installed a second samba server for them, being a logon master so

winbind -u works, getent passwd dont't work
This is all correct and by design.
Try : getent passwd username
If you running this on a Samba AD DC.
If you want to see if you pam setup is done, run : pam-auth-update
But still you only see the users with : getent passwd username

rsync incremental backup problem with --backup-dir switch
Hello,
I am using rsync v2.5.6 to backup our entire server filesystem over the
network to a central backup server.
I have copied the example script from the rsync website
(http://rsync.samba.org/examples.html) to create incremental backups, the
--backup-dir seems to have a strange side-effect.
Everything goes well, but on the server side where the backup is stored I
can't seem to break out

how do you rate limit routable traffic without rate limiting LAN protocols like arps and igmp?
I''m rate limiting and prioritizing traffic upstream of a slow wan link
using htb, classic wonder shaper type stuff. I''m using the following
command for traffic that does not match any of my defined filters:
tc qdisc add dev eth0 root handle 1: htb default 50
It appears that local, non-routable traffic like arps and igmp are being
snared by this and end-up queued in the lowest

is Prio-map really used in a CBQ without filter of filter mismatch?
Hi, all,
according to the following HTML,
http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.qdisc.classful.html
section 9.5.3.1. PRIO parameters & usage:
it says:
"If you do not provide tc filters to classify traffic, the PRIO qdisc
looks at the TC_PRIO priority to decide how to enqueue traffic."
So my understanding is that the Priomap will be consulted to classify
the packet.
However, I see the

Cbq and max latency
Hi All,
Is there any way to set the maximum latency on a cbq when it is
overloaded?
Or, for that matter, to query it?
For example, I want to know how long (in seconds) a packet will stay in
the queue before it is dropped, and I want to be able to adjust this
figure.
