[third try] How to masquerade as Administrator?
My original thread got taken off-topic and seems to not want to get back on-topic. Does anybody have any ideas about my question? Here's the original text of my question. Thanks for any help. Wine 0.9 installation. I installed Internet Explorer using the manual procedure in the applications database. I then changed the version reporting to Windows 2000 using winecfg and then went to

Joining an AD domain without password
samba-3.0.6, win2k will all patches from windowsupdate as of last friday Should it be possible to join an AD domain (win2k) without a password on the client side if the machine is already created in the ou=Computers container? I seem to be unable to do this: either "net ads join" will ask for a password or it will try with the current user's kerberos ticket and fail if this user

Domains and Windows Update
I've got several dozen Windows XP Pro computers in a Samba/Windows Domain. The problem is that with them being in the domain, automatic updates does not work on these computers. I think its because the people log into the computers with the default windows domain restrictions (you know, can't install anything, can't adjust the time on the clock, can't update drivers, etc).

Win2k DC no longer authenticates for Samba shares
I have a win2k domain ... 2 of the client machines are Red Hat (7.3 and 8.0). I set everything up to use the DC to authenticate ID/PW. Everything worked perfectly until a week or so ago ... Samba would automatically create a home folder and the whole nine yards. Now I can see the shares on the Samba machines, but I can't access them ... just prompts for the ID/PW over and over. I can mount

Explorer not refreshing with SAMBA 3.5.x on Solaris 10 x64
I am experiencing a problem with Explorer not refreshing view correctly. The test case: (1) Map drive to SAMBA share and open drive in Explorer. (2) Create an empty file which displays correctly in Explorer, including the size. (3) Re-open this empty file and fill it with data. The size of the file does not increment as the file is increasing in size. Once the file update has been

howto "upgrade/transfer" samba domain-user + domain-group data to a new windows 2003 act
You could do what we do - just replace the local machine policies each time you rev the policy set. They're stored in c:\windows\system32\grouppolicy. Using gpscript.exe (Google for it, don't have a specific site) you can dump the contents of either registry.pol file to text. You can also recombine textfiles back into a .pol file, and subsequently rev the gpt.ini file so your new .pol

Hardware solution? (or v.easy software fix instead)
I''m moving to a new place and my new flatmate wants a router because he likes the cleaness of it all in a non geeky way which I can understand. This means it''s going to be hard for me to pursude him to let me run a computer as a router to act as bandwidth cop. But I don''t fancy trying to use ssh, VNC and games while he''s using WindowsUpdate or p2p. So I need

DMZ and WAN
Hola, I have a question in regards to ignoring traffic shaping for LAN side that connects to a DMZ IMAP server through the WAN interface. The DMZ and the WAN side are both on a 10/100 switch. Is it possible? Thanks. ~Andrew. OS MDK 9.1 kernel-smp-2.4.21.0.33mdk-1-1mdk HTB; iproute2-2.4.7-7mdk; shorewall-1.4.8-2.2.92mdk

Windows Update and DMZ
I am running a LEAF Bering firewall with a DMZ at one of my client''s sites. The client has a Windows IIS server set up in the DMZ. The DMZ rules block all outgoing connections on all ports. The client wants to be able to run Windows Update on the server, which uses ports 80 and 443. However, opening all port 80 and 443 connections from the server to the net zone is not an option,

Using private & public addresses together in the Shorewall''s DMZ zone
I have one question: Can I use routable and non-routable IP addreses together in the DMZ zone? I read the both three-interfaces setup and the Configuration Guide and each one explains how to do the either way? My problem is that, I have to use the public IP address for my DNS server (cannot change that), and setup additional web servers which will do port-forwarding (DNAT) through the firewall

Access local net from dmz
Hi, I have one server in a DMZ with an public IP. The three-leged-shorewall is configured using proxy arp, to access this server from the internet and the local network. That works for e.g. http... From the server I can ssh to the firewall or ftp to the internet, but I can''t ssh or ftp into the local network. (may be there is something wrong with the routes...?) I don''t
