Hi All, Is anyone successfully using ROR 2.x with Firebird 2.x in a production environment? The support seems to have dwindled. I would greatly appreciate any installation guidelines, comments or tips. What is somewhat confusing is what is required to for ROR to play nicely with firebird. Help for Beginners: A Simple Way of Installing the Latest Version of Rsync?
Hello, Please bear with me because I'm no command-line guru. Quite the opposite. I was wondering if there existed a simple, straightforward way for a novice to install the latest version of rsync (3.0.9) onto Mac OS X. After searching around the Web, I found that the following site offers such an installer -- http://www.themacplace.co.uk/downloads.html -- but the proposed version of rsync

PXE boot times out after "Loading."
I am trying to install Debian GNU/Linux onto a floppy-less CD-ROM-less Shuttle XPC SS40G with an AMD Athlon installed. This machine has an on-board ethernet controller (RealTek 8139), but I had also added an Intel Pro/100 Ethernet card, and I am trying to boot via that additional Ethernet card. Following the instructions at: http://www.debianplanet.org/node.php?id=818 I obtained the stock

Which FM should beginners R? A suggestion.
We've recently had a thread on beginners and FAQs and the like. I decided that it might be a good idea to offer a short list of on-line help pages that beginners should read. Goals: - the list short be short (I think mine is too long) - many of the commonest questions should find answers there (fairish) - I should have found the pages helpful myself (no question about that) - it's a

Short courses for beginners?
Recently I've had a couple folks ask me whether there are short courses or tutorials offered to help them get started in R. They're thinking of small-ish courses that they could travel to (in the US) and spend a few days focused on the basics of data manipulation and modeling in R. I've seen announcements now and then on this list, but none recently. Is there a central place where such

Hi I heard so much about Emacs and ESS that I decided to try it out - but I am stuck at the beginning. Is there anywhere a beginners manual for Emacs & ESS to be used with R? even M-x S tells me it can't start S-Plus - obviously - but I want it to start R... Any help welcome (otherwise I will be stuck with Eclipse and R) Rainer -- Rainer M. Krug, Dipl. Phys. (Germany), MSc

Study Guide by Topics for Beginners
Hi, I've been trying to organize my self, and has been making an order list, for beginners (as I am), of practical topics that should be studied to manage a communication node (ISP). Also, each topic should have referred books, urls and materials about it, in order of reading too. Here I ask you for some experienced help, to conform this, or some reference point where start on. The way you

introduction slides for beginners
Hi all, does anybody have slides for a 1 to 3 hour crash course into R, that I would be allowed to recycle to show a few people the light? On the R-website http://cran.r-project.org/other-docs.html I found several additional books, but no slides. It might be nice to add a page with slides, too. Thank you, -Armin

Hi List, as I''m a real beginner I would be pleased if someone can answer a maybe simple question. I''m looking for a virtaul server system to be used by diffrent entities. As I heard from other solutions there are often (at least small) security problems. Now I would like to know if it''s (at least theoretical possible) that one user from domU_a can access domU_b or

documentation for beginners ?`
Is there any documentation that instructs a beginner how to configure (and the logic behind) wine and the steps necessary to install windows software? I have the user's guide but it does lack much, particularly what is going on. I am using ubuntu 6.06 and have presumably installed wine correctly. However, I cannot configure the system. A typical error message is, upon invoking winecfg,

A beginners question
Hi. I used R years ago at Uni but haven't touched it since, so I'm back to beginner level now. After looking through the manuals for a while I've come to the conclusion I don't know where to start looking for what I'm looking for, so I decided to ask for help. I've got a fairly simple data frame with an identifier, period and score. There are a few hundred seperate
