Wrong bug ID & URL in Daily News about R-devel/NEWS
I was browsing some recent R news at http://developer.r-project.org/blosxom.cgi/R-devel/NEWS/2016/01/03#n2016-01-03 And reading this item: "tapply() has been made considerably more efficient without changing functionality, thanks to proposals from Peter Haverty and Suharto Anggono. (PR#16488)" But I found that the link in the item goes to a page about the GUI, not tapply:

RSS Feed of NEWS needs a hand
Hi! Thanks for this service! It is very helpful to know what is being developed. I distribute the content to other venues and I noticed some times that the updates are duplicated. For example, the sentence "?is.R()? is deprecated as no other S dialect is known to be in use (and this could only identify historical dialects, not future ones)." is duplicated in different days: Day 1:

readLines() segfaults on large file & question on how to work around
Hi: I have a 2.1GB JSON file. Typically I use readLines() and jsonlite:fromJSON() to extract data from a JSON file. When I try and read in this file using readLines() R segfaults. I believe the two salient issues with this file are 1). Its size 2). It is a single line (no line breaks) I can reproduce this issue as follows #Generate a big file with no line breaks # In R >

readLines function with R >= 3.5.0
Hi Michael: I can confirm Martin's comment. I tested my software with r-devel (r74914) and it works, while with r-patched (r74914) it does not work (it hangs, as it did in R 3.5.0). I apologize for it taking so long for me to test this, but is there any chance this fix could make into R 3.5.1? Thanks. Jen. readLines() segfaults on large file & question on how to work around
Thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunately, while R doesn't segfault calling readr::read_file() on the test file I described, I get the error message: Error in read_file_(ds, locale) : negative length vectors are not allowed Jen On Sat, Sep 2, 2017 at 1:38 PM, Ista Zahn <istazahn at gmail.com> wrote: > As s work-around I suggest readr::read_file. > > --Ista > > >

print.POSIXct doesn't seem to use tz argument, as per its example
On the documentation page for DateTimeClasses, in the Examples section, there are the following two lines: format(.leap.seconds) # the leap seconds in your time zone print(.leap.seconds, tz = "PST8PDT") # and in Seattle's The second line (using print) seems to ignore the tz argument, and prints the dates in my time zone, while: format(.leap.seconds, tz =

readLines() segfaults on large file & question on how to work around
Jeroen: Thank you for pointing me to ndjson, which I had not heard of and is exactly my case. My experience: jsonlite::stream_in - segfaults ndjson::stream_in - my fault, I am running Ubuntu 14.04 and it is too old so it won't compile the package corpus::read_ndjson - works!!! Of course it does a different simplification than jsonlite::fromJSON, so I have to change some code, but

readLines function with R >= 3.5.0
Hi: I have also just stumbled into this bug. Unfortunately, I can not change the data my program receives from stdin. My code runs in a larger system and stdin is sent to a Docker container running my R code. The protocol is I read a line, readLines("stdin", n=1), do some actions, send output on stdout, and wait for the next set of data. I don't have control over this protocol, so

Regenerate news feeds?
The news feeds (e.g. https://developer.r-project.org/blosxom.cgi/R-devel/NEWS) have some stray "\abbr" floating around. Do they need generating with a more recent version of R-devel? I've run tools::Rd2txt on https://svn.r-project.org/R/trunk/doc/NEWS.Rd and r85550 does seem to remove these abberations (compared to the same function calling on an unpatched 4.3.2 where they

difficulty in Ubuntu 14.04 apt-getting R 3.3.2
Hi: I have a Dockerfile, which builds an image which installed R 3.3.2 in Ubuntu 14.04, but building using that Dockerfile seems to have stopped working and I am unclear why. I believe the relevant error is: Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet

Blosxom + Markdown problem: randomised email links break RSS, Atom

Bug 17432 in readLines with R >= 3.5.0 still a problem
Michael: I don't see any comments on Bug 17432 ( https://bugs.r-project.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=17432) later than June 1, 2018. readBin should check that its endian argument is a legal value
I think it would be helpful if readBin checked that its endian argument is a legal value. Why? I was reviewing some of our code and noticed that the author had readBin(..., endian="network") and never having heard of "network", I looked at the man page for readBin, and it hadn't heard of "network" either. Not good. I then looked at the R code for readBin, which

Has the changelog for R-devel and R-patched moved?
Hello. There used to be changelog of sorts for R-devel [1] and R-release [2]. Neither have been updated since 2015-07-24. Have these moved elsewhere, or are they no longer being updated?
