S3 method dispatch for methods in local environments
Dear Wolfgang, I think this new behaviour is related to the following R 4.0.0 NEWS item: > S3 method lookup now by default skips the elements of the search path between the global and base environments. Your environment "myenv" is attached at position 2 of the search() path and thus now skipped in S3 method lookup. I have just noticed that

do.call in "with" construction
Dear all, I'd appreciate any help to rectify what must be a misconception of mine how environments work: ########################## myEnv <- new.env() myEnv$a.env <- 1 myEnv$symbols.env <- "a.env" a.global <- 2 symbols.global <- "a.global" myFun <- function(symbols){do.call("print", lapply(symbols, FUN=as.name))} do.call("myFun",

package.skeleton from within function: objects not found
Hi all, I ran into a strange error: I am trying to create a package skeleton for a new source package from within a function. Objects that are created in this function are to be included in my package, but for some reason, I get an error message saying that these objects cannot be found. Here is the code: ###### myfun <- function(pkgName,x){ myenv <- new.env() apply(x, 1,

Unexpected argument-matching when some are missing
When trying out some variations with `[.data.frame` I noticed some (to me) odd behaviour, which I found out has nothing to do with `[.data.frame`, but rather with the way arguments are matched, when mixing named/unnamed and missing/non-missing arguments. Consider the following example: myfun <- function(x,y,z) { ? print(match.call()) ? cat('x=',if(missing(x)) 'missing'

Error in load(dataFile, myEnv)
Dear all, I just found that some of the packages are not able to load any more, after I installed R2.0.1 in my Mac, it even affects my old R1.8 installs. It gives me errors when I load packages that contains "myEnv" settings. such as: RMySQL, DBI, Rggobi, etc. But others that does not require "myENV" is all right, like tcltk that only calls the c functions. The errors

new.env does not recognize parents from subclasses of "environment"
Dear Developers, A lot has been changed in the R12.0 with respect to behavior of "environment" subclasses. Many thanks for that. One small irregularity, though; new.env does not allow the parent to be from S4 subclass. > setClass("myenv", contains="environment") [1] "myenv" > new.env(parent=new("myenv")) Error in new.env(parent =

Correct NAMESPACE approach when writing an S3 method for a generic in another package
Dear List, In one of my packages I have an S3 method for the plot3d generic function from package rgl. I am trying to streamline my Depends entries but don't know how to have plot3d(foo) in the examples section for the plot3d method in my package, without rgl being in Depends. Note that I importFrom(rgl, plotd3d) and register my S3 method via S3Method() in the NAMESPACE. If rgl is not in

Summary statistics for matrix columns
Hi, is there a way I can calculate a summary statistics for a columns matrix let say we have this matrix x <- matrix(sample(1:8000),nrow=100) colnames(x)<- paste("Col",1:ncol(x),sep="") if I used summary summary(x) i get the output for each column but I need the output to be in matrix with rownames and all the columns beside it this how I want it

help with predict for cr model using rms package
Dear list, I'm currently trying to use the rms package to get predicted ordinal responses from a conditional ratio model. As you will see below, my model seems to fit well to the data, however, I'm having trouble getting predicted mean (or fitted) ordinal response values using the predict function. I have a feeling I'm missing something simple, however I haven't been able to

Floating point maths in R
Hi, I am not sure if this is just me using R (R-2.3.1 and R-2.4.0) in the wrong way or if there is a more serious bug. I was having problems getting some calculations to add up so I ran the following tests: > (2.34567 - 2.00000) == 0.34567 <------- should be true [1] FALSE > (2.23-2.00) == 0.23 <------- should be true [1] FALSE > 4-2==2 [1] TRUE > (4-2)==2 [1] TRUE >

Does anyone know how to use the equivalent of debug() on an S4 method? I would like R to enter the browser not for the generic function, but for the method of the class that I specify. How S3method() is implemented and called? And when to use it?
R-exts.pdf discribes S3method a little bit. But I want to understand more on how it is called, implemented and when to use it. I don't find it in an R session. But I see S3method() in some NAMESPACE files. > S3method Error: object 'S3method' not found > ?S3method No documentation for 'S3method' in specified packages and libraries: you could try '??S3method' I
