Dividing a vector into ntiles
R 2.1.1 Win 2k Would someone suggest a method (or methods) that can be used to determine ntile cutpoints of a vector, i.e. to determine values that can be used to divide a vector into thirds such as 0-33 centile, 34-66 centile, 67-100 centile. If for example I had a vector: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and wanted to divide the vector into thirds I would have cut-points of 3, and 6. Thanks, John John

Decile
Hello comunity, I'm trying to find a similar function as decile of SPSS, NTILES (10) some of you know about that, I will appreciate your help in advance. In SPSS VARIABLES=Sales (A) /NTILES (10) /PRINT=NO for example if I have Next data input: case IdCust Sales Profit 1 265 140.81 314.31 2 266 1778.96 408.32 3 267 2663.66 820.85 4 268 2994.14 913.73 5 269 2185.58 686.64 6 271 105.21

Hello! I've got troubles on following thing: As output I need a string like: INPUT_FILENAMES = H:\\AKK_temp\\Modis\\MOD13Q1\\austria\\MOD09Q1.A2008073.h18v04.005.2008083134952.hdf|H:\\AKK_temp\\Modis\\MOD13Q1\\austria\\MOD09Q1.A2008073.h19v04.005.2008082182221.hdf The filenames (dates) are with pathname (wrkdr) and separated with "|". 3d Map with bars
Apologies in advance for the question. I am trying to draw a map of the US as a surface plot so that I would be able to drop bars on the different states (something like Uwe Ligges' scatterplot3d example 4). I am not sure where to start looking for such a beast. If anyone has any pointers, ideas, I will be grateful. TIA, Partha

Resampling Help Needed
I am using package ks() to build 3D representations of bird territories and calculate territory volume from spatial data (simply x, y, and z coordinates). What I want to do is determine at what sample size (# locations collected) does the territory volume stop increasing. This should give me an idea of the number of points needed for future seasons. So I have a couple of birds each with 200

Need a hint
R community: I have been creating code for plotting nomographs, or multiple, overlain contour plots of z-variables on a common x- and y- variable. My input has been a matrix with observed x, y, and multiple z variables; I then create a trend surface using trmat for each z-variable. So far so good. One application I have for these, requires shading a portion of the nomogram that meets criteria

colouring a tree
Hi all. I would be very pleased if someone could help me, as I do not seem to get the different branches of my tree painted in different colours. The closest I get is colouring the names of my samples(=names of the branches). Here is the code. data <- read.table(file = "S://SEDIM//TRFLP//B12.5_50-700bp.txt" , as.is = TRUE, header = TRUE, sep = "\t", row.names =

how to plot implicit functions
Dear R users -- I think this question was asked before but there was no reply to it. I would appreciate any suggestion any of you might have. I am interested in plotting several "implicit functions" (F(x,y,z)=0) on the same fig. Is there anyone who has an example code of how to do this? Thank you Yihsu

Saving data in an R package - how to maintain that t avariable is a 'factor' when it is coded as 1, 2, 3...
I have a .txt file obtained by saving a data frame in which the first four columns are factors (but represented as 1,2,3 etc). The first four lines are "Pig" "Evit" "Cu" "Litter" "Start" "Weight" "Feed" "Time" "4601" "1" "1" "1" 26.5 26.5 NA 1 "4601" "1"

Memory usage bar plot
Hi, I haven't tried the code yet. Is there a way to parse this data using R and create bar plots so that each program's 'RAM used' figures are grouped together. So 'uuidd' bars will be together. The data will have about 50 sets. So if there are 100 processes each will have about 50 bars. What is the recommended way to graph these big barplots ? I am looking

Posix data in Lattice
I have a number of plots that I'm trying to do using the lattice package, unfortunately, they involve Posix values. A small sample of the data is as follows: Time TC.1 <Snipped> 1 2003-04-24 13:29:15 26.61 2 2003-04-24 13:29:30 26.48 3 2003-04-24 13:30:00 26.53 4 2003-04-24 13:30:30 27.85 <Snipped> where str(data) `data.frame': 415 obs. of

Bug in ftable?? (Was: Two-way tables of data, etc)
Further to the discussion between Murray Jorgensen and Brian Ripley, it seems to me better to choose tabulations that will not come and bite you. Suppose your data are sligtly irregular, e.g. (for the sake of the argument): data( warpbreaks ) warpbreaks$variant <- rep( 1:5, len=54 ) attach( warpbreaks ) tb <- table( wool, tension, variant ) tb # in this case you would like to see: tp

R's Spearman
Hi all, I am trying to figure out the formula used by R's Spearman rho (using cor(method="spearman")) because I can't seem to get the same value as by calculating "by hand". Perhaps I'm using "cor" wrong, but I don't know where. Basically, I am running these commands: > y=read.table(file="tmp",header=TRUE,sep="\t") >

Question on Simple Repeated Loops
Dear R-User, Appreciate any helps. It looks simple, but I don't have a clue. Given that I have a dataframe of tree population with three variables: sp=species , d0=initial_size grow=growth increment from initial size per year How can I calculate the future growth increment of each tree for the next 3 years. The following Rscript was written, #---------- a0 <-

invalid 'row.names' length error when running scatterplots or plot in R Commander
Hello, I teach statistics and use R Commander for teaching. I have 2 students out of 169 that can't get scatterplots or plot to work. I have had them update packages, restart R/R Commander/their computers and even reinstall R/R Commander. One is using Windows 7 on a new pc and the other is a pc user (not sure the OS). They are both using R2.11.1 and R Commander 1.6-0. The data look like

grep
Hi I have a script which is designed to gather data from individual columns from a file, which is an output from an instrument. the file has multiple sections and each a section has data under each column (vars), I am using the name of the column as a variable to gather the column ID using vidx<-grep(vars[vi],gsub("[[:punct:]]","",strrl1[[datbeg-1]]),ignore.case=T) the
