Shorewall and squid not wokring together
Hi everybody. We are running Shorewall and Squid on
Suse on the same box. Each is working fine
independently, but we can''t get them to cooperate. The
access log in squid shows no requests when Shorewall
is on. Here are all the changes we made in the
configuration files. Everything else is the same. We
have read through the mailing list and the guide, but
still haven''t figured it

Squid as a transparent proxy
Hi,
I followed the instructions in the section "Squid
(transparent) Running on the Firewall" on
http://www.shorewall.net/Shorewall_Squid_Usage.html to
setup Squid transparently on a Linux gateway. My net
is as follows:

(gw = WAN.WAN.WAN.WAN (eth0)

Shorewall and Squid 2.6
Hi all,
(not sure that this is the right places where send this. sorry)
I think that http://www.shorewall.net/Shorewall_Squid_Usage.html must be
updated.
The current SQUID version (2.6) don''t support anymore the ''httpd_accel''
directives.
So anyone that would follow this guide for configure a transparent proxy
will receive an error 400.
Please modify the guide as

Squid +Yum = apt-cacher?
Hi all,
I was wondering if would be possible to configure squid to co ope with yum so
it recognize mirrors and it can cache rpm packages based on package name and
maybe some other parameter to be sure that is the right package.
Any ideas?
Cheers,

Informal HOWTO - transparent authentication and optional outbound web filtering using Samba 3.0.13, Squid 2.5.STABLE7, SmartFilter 4.01, RedHat 9.0 in a Win2003 AD domain
Thanks to everyone for all the help getting this done. As promised,
here are the detailed notes I put together. These step by step
instructions should work starting with a raw RedHat Linux 9.0 system.

applying quantile to a list using values of another object as probs
Hi r-users,
I have a matrix B and a list of 3x3 matrices (mylist). I want to
calculate the quantiles in the list using each of the value of B as
probabilities.
The codes I wrote are:
B <- matrix (runif(12, 0, 1), 3, 4)
mylist <- lapply(mylist, function(x) {matrix (rnorm(9), 3, 3)})
for (i in 1:length(B))
{
quant <- lapply (mylist, quantile, probs=B[i])
}
But quant

I have set up classes of traffic (HTTP, FTP, MAIL, IM, OTHER) and i have

Parallelizing GBM
Dear All,
I am far from being a guru about parallel programming.
Most of the time, I rely or randomForest for data mining large datasets.
I would like to give a try also to the gradient boosted methods in GBM,
but I have a need for parallelization.
I normally rely on gbm.fit for speed reasons, and I usually call it this
way
gbm_model <- gbm.fit(trainRF,prices_train,
offset = NULL,

extracting random effects from model formula
Hi R-users
I would like to extract the random effects ("1|SITE", "1+SPECIES|SITE"
and "BA|SITE") from this model formula:
Full_model <- formula (VAR ~ (1|SITE) + (1+SPECIES|SITE) + (BA|SITE) +
HEIGHT + COND + NN_DIST)
I tried:
terms(Full_model)
labels(terms(Full_model))
but I could not distinguish between random and fixed effects.
thanks

Addressing Columns in a Data Frame
Dear All,
Probably a one liner, but I am banging my head against the floor.
Consider the following
DF <- data.frame(
x=1:10,
y=10:1,
z=rep(5,10),
a=11:20
)
mn<-names(DF)
but then I cannot retrieve a column by doing e.g,
DF$mn[2]
I tried to play with the quotes and so on, but so far with no avail.
Any suggestion is welcome.
Cheers

Problems in running affylmGUI
Hi,
I am trying to run affylmGUI on my mac computer. I have already
installed the Tlc package as well as Bwidgets through ActiveTcl
conversion installing files.
However, when running affylmGUI() on R, I keep getting the message in
the attached file.
I have copied the tcl folders from the root library to the user
library, and have obtained the same issue.
I would really appreciate if
