grDevices::convertColor XYZ space is it really xyY?
grDevices::convertColor has arguments 'from' and 'to' which can take on value 'XYZ'. Can someone confirm that 'XYZ' is the same as the CIE chromaticity coordinates that are also sometimes refered to as 'xyY' in the literature? Or are these the CIE tristimulus values? It looks to me like the first case is true, but I would appreciate hearing from one of

grDevices::convertColor and colorRamp(space='Lab') Performance Improvements
`grDevices::convertColor` performance can be improved by 30-300x with small changes to the code. `colorRamp(space='Lab')` uses `convertColor` so it too benefits from substantial performance gains. `convertColor` vectorizes explicitly over the rows of the input color matrix using `apply`. The level-1 patch [1] illustrates a possible minimal set of changes to achieve this with just R

Alpha channel in colorRamp() and colorRampPalette()
Hi all, I had the need to create a colorbar considering the alpha channel of the colors, but colorRamp() and colorRampPalette() ignored the alpha argument in rgb(). So I performed some minor modifs. in their codes, as to support the interpolation using the alpha channel. I guess that those simple modifications might be useful for other people, so perhaps it would be worth to add them to

extracting RGB values from a colorspace class object
Greetings, After pouring over the documentation for the 'colorspace' package, I have not been able to figure out how the plot() method converts colorspace coordinates to RGB values for display on the screen. I am convert between colorspaces with the various as() methods... but cannot seem to find a way to extract RGB (i.e. for displaying on a computer screen) triplets from color space

[R] color palette from red to blue passing white (shifted from R-help)
Hi, The move to sRGB is nice, is there any interest in adding an interface to lcms, http://www.littlecms.com, to allow gamut matching? I can think of a lot of instances where I would like to render a figure as it would appear on my printer. This is probably best done as a separate package though, at least at first. [OT] two question about color space.
Hi there, I try to plot visible light spectrum (380nm~780nm) with color corresponding to the specific wavelength. However, I don't find a function that could do this. Another question, it's possible to plot a color space chromaticity diagram like this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/02/CIExy1931.svg/300px-CIExy1931.svg.png Thanks in advance! color scale mapped to B/W
In an R graphic, I'm using cond.col <- c("green", "yellow", "red") to represent a quantitative variable, where green means 'OK', yellow represents 'warning' and red represents 'danger'. Using these particular color names, in B/W, red is darkest and yellow is lightest. I'd like to find color designations to replace yellow and

Selecting complementary colours
Dear r-helpers, I wonder whether, given the "#rrggbb" representation of a colour, there is a simple way to select the complementary colour, also expressed as a "#rrggbb" string. Any suggestions would be appreciated. John -------------------------------- John Fox, Professor Department of Sociology McMaster University Hamilton, Ontario Canada L8S 4M4 905-525-9140x23604

How to divide too long labels?
Is there any possibility to divide too long text in a plot to two or more lines, when using labels-parameter in the text()-command? Here is an example picture: http://users.utu.fi/attenka/253.jpeg My example script is something like this: text(1,0.7,labels=Chordnames[fnid(pcs%%12)]) # according to Larry Solomon's table http://solomonsmusic.net/pcsets.htm Chordnames is a long vector with
