R> round(100000/3, -2) - 33300 [1] -7.275958e-12 I would have hoped for 0. The problem seems to be specifically for negative "digits". This is in 1.3.1 on Solaris 2.6 (full description at bottom). [Apologies for making everyone read this 3 times; my bug.report() burped.] Peter Dalgaard <p.dalgaard@biostat.ku.dk> says the problem is in fround.c, which reads in part:

round() doesn't (PR#1139)
Hi, all, In PR#1138 and PR#1139, I pointed out that round() with digits<0 would not actually round to an integer. Brian D. Ripley (hereafter BDR) fixed it in R-1.4.0, but the fix introduced a new error, PR#1254 (caught by Ole Christensen). BDR (I'm guessing) fixed the fix; here's the relevant line from fround.c: if(dig <= 0 && fabs(res) < 1e9) res = (int)floor(res +

does parLapplyLB do load-balancing?
Looking at parLapplyLB, one sees that it takes in X and then passes splitList(X, length(cl)) to clusterApplyLB, which then calls dynamicClusterApply. Thus while dynamicClusterApply does handle tasks in a load-balancing fashion, sending out individual tasks as previous tasks complete, parLapplyLB preempts that by splitting up the tasks in advance into as many groups of tasks as there are cluster

Larger X11 fonts under R-2.1.0
I view plots on my screen with X11(width=.455*11, height=.455*8.5), which creates a small window with the American standard aspect ratio. Under R-2.0.1 and earlier, the default fonts were a reasonable size, but under R-2.1.0 they are too big and fat. I now have to either set pointsize=10 in X11(), or par(cex=.7) afterwards. The NEWS file has this to say about X11 fonts: The changes to font

R, OpenBLAS and OMP_NUM_THREEADS
What is the correct way to globally configure R to default to single (or at least, << NUM_CPUS) threaded operation? Using R 3.3.1 (both in debian unstable or using the CRAN repository for xenial) with OpenBLAS (0.2.18) defaults to using one thread per available CPU, which isn't ideal for machines more than a couple of CPUs. Setting the environment (OMP_NUM_THREADS or
