[R] R is creating a new level which is emty after importing a SAS file
It is not obvious that this is an error. If your nominal variable in SAS has a level which is not present in data, then R might just be making a faithful translation. There is a distinction between (a) having a gender variable with two levels of which 0 females and (b) pretending that male is the only possible gender. Anyways, droplevels() is your friend. (Notice that it easier to remove levels

read.ssd() from foreign package
Hi, I am encountering a confusing problem when I tried to use read.ssd to read SAS datasets. For one SAS dataset "a.sas7bdat", it did not work; while for another SAS dataset "b.sas7bdat" it worked: > tmp<-read.ssd("C:\\SASdata", "a",sascmd="C:/Program >Files/SAS/SASFoundation/9.2/sas.exe") SAS failed. Opening SAS file using read.sas7bdat() function in sas7bdat library.
Hi, I have a file in .sas7bdat format. I tried to open this file using read.sas7bdat() function. This gave me an error - "Error in read.sas7bdat("bnp_genetic.sas7bdat") : unknown host X64_7PRO". Could someone tell me what this error means? Thank you, Praveen. [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

I have not used SAS since I was downloading data from mainframe and having to write JCL. I had forgotten how bizarre SAS can be. I currently have not even figured out how to load the files

Roaming Profile problems
Hi, we are using samba 3.0.10-17 with openlddap 2.2.6-37.22 as backend. We use roaming profiles, but because of problems with different operating systems and the profile size, we want to use locale profiles. I tried to change logon path in smb.conf in an emty string, but no changes, if I delete this entry in smb.conf, samba use a default value and this is on the server. So I tried to change

Repeated measures in nlme vs SAS Proc Mixed with AR1 correlation structure
Hi all, I don't know if anyone has any thoughts on this. I have been trying to move from SAS Proc Mixed to R nlme and have an unusual result. I have several subjects measured at four timepoints. I want to model the within-subject correlation using an autoregressive structure. I've attached the R and SAS code I'm using along with the results from SAS. With R lme I get an estimate of

Read SAS data
Hi! I need to import in R some SAS dataset (sas7bdat). I found two functions to do it: "read.ssd" from the package "foreign" and "sas.get" from "Hmisc". df = read.ssd(libname = path2data, sectionnames = "sasSmallDataset", tmpXport = path2data, tmpProgLoc = path2data, sascmd = path2sas) sas.get(libraryName = path2data, member =

Importing a SAS file to R: Alas, STILL more problems--has anyone gotten this message before, and why
Sorry to write twice in one day--I am a relative newbie to some of these parts of R, and I am pulling my hair out! B/c I am preparing a file to use WINBUGS I am cross-posting to the BUGS group as well, in case anyone there has some ideas on this. I've got a large SAS dataset that I want to put in R form to more easily use the file with the hierarchical modeling software WINBUGS. It has
