Proxy ARP
Hi all! I posted earlier about the proxy arp configuration = http://shorewall.sourceforge.net/shorewall_setup_guide.htm#NonRouted, = and was probably not sufficiently knowledgeable on the subject. I''ve = gone through a bunch of documents on proxy arp, subnetting with proxy = arp and the documentation at shorewall, and have come up with a setup = that would be perfect for the job at hand

Idea: permit /etc/shorewall/masq to contain zones, as well as interfaces
Dear All, Firstly, thank you very much - shorewall is great. I''m not a member of this list, and please forgive me if I am suggesting something stupid, but the following occurs to me, and I thought it might be useful. Why no make it possible to specify zones as well as interfaces in the /etc/shorewall/masq file ? Eg: instead of: eth0 eth1 one might write: net loc (or masq in

router in a subnet again :)
Hi, after migrating to shorewall firewall from my own iptables rule set (to utilise freeswan vpn tunnels) I have successfully configured a 3 interface firewall with net2net vpn tunnels, with the help of the shorewall documentation. However I cannot seem to configure my final step which is to masq another subnet attached to my LAN (LANB, via Cisco 1603 router) to get internet access via the

Multi ISP, multi address, masq file
I''m planning a multi isp setup and cafully read the documentation. One thing that bothers me is the masq file. The example uses a single ip address on each public interface. I have multiple addresses on both public interfaces (16 on one and 64 on the other). I''m a bit confused about what to put in the masq file in this situation. Any insights would be appreciated. SNAT is less expensive than MASQ
hi, in the masq file''s documentation, there is a sentence: "If you have a static IP on that interface, listing it here makes processing of output packets a little less expensive for the firewall." this realy means that SNAT to the primary address is less expensive than a MASQ rules in the netfilter? is this documented anywhere in iptables/netfilter? thanks. -- Levente

Multi-ISP in 2.4.0
Hello Shorewall list, I''m a happy Shorewall user since a few years now and everything works fine for me except one thing that I try to implement since a week, the multi-isp. I''ve downloaded the 2.4.0 Stable release yesterday and tried the RC2 since a week. My config is a Debian running a kernel 2.4.27 home made with the CONNMARK.diff patch applied I''m using 2 ISP,

Differences in masq from 1.4 -> 2.0?
In the panic of replacing our firewall(s) earlier in the week, we ended up moving our original shorewall 1.4 config onto a machine with 2.0.10 already installed, overwriting all the 2.0.10 config files. Most things seem to work fine, except for our masq entries. I''ve examined the default 2.0.10 files compared with our 1.4 files, and can''t spot the problem. What am I missing?

DNAT + Masq Problem - Yes I read the FAQ I promise
I have a debian woody machine acting as a firewall for a small network. I am trying to do a simple DNAT to port 80 on the protected webserver and masquerade all traffic from the protect subnet outbound. After having read the FAQ and various posts regarding problems with DNAT I''m afraid I''m no closer to a solution. Based on the output from "shorewall show nat" I

masq problem
Hi everybody. I''m sorry to bother you because I''m probably doing something wrong, but I have already read the documentation and I have been using shorewall for quite a long time. I recently installed 3.2.3 from source (but there was the same problem with 3.0.7 from apt-get ... -t unstable) The thing is, that I can''t get masq working. Maybe this is because

converting MASQ from ipchains
Hello, on my old system I''m using ipchains. Can anyone help me with converting rule /sbin/ipchains -A forward -j MASQ -s source_addr -d destination_addr 443 -p tcp to shorewall. I know that I can write eth0 source_addr to /etc/shorewall/masq file but I can''t found where I can specify the destination address. The reason for this is to allow one user (computer) access only to
