svn and ruby structure
I just set up svn and did a checkout. When I set up the repository, I did an import of the entire base directory of the rails application which was great because it allowed me to do a checkout on to my computer with everything. Of course, now on my home computer, I''ve got a changed database.yml and environment.rb and the log files (because I''ve been running a copy on my home

Transparent Redirect to external host
Hello all, After perusing the documentation, faqs, and mailing list archives, I have not been able to find a way to do the following. I''m hoping "you" can help. I want to transparently redirect all outbound SMTP connections to an SMTP server of *my* choice. This way, regardless of what a user on my network has set their SMTP server to be within their MUA, I will redirect

FW outgoing connection with multiple public IPs
My need: Considering a Sendmail relay running on the firewall (IP: 200.1.1.1), I need all TCP/SMTP outgoing connections to the Internet appers to be from another ISP allocated external IP (200.1.1.2), not the main FW''s IP. As stated in Docs (http://shorewall.net/shorewall_quickstart_guide.htm#id2485947), I read Setup Guide to try to solve my problem but I cannot figure out how to change

Shorewall and OpenVPN woes
Ok. I''m knocking down one problem at a time. I''ve managed to figure out how to bridge my tap0 and my eth1 with br0. This is good stuff. But if I have shorewall running, I can''t ping the local network at all. If I have shorewall not running, I can ping the local network. Here is my setup. Firewall/NAT box: eth0 - DHCP from cable provider eth1 -

optimumvoice
Hi. A friend of mine came asking about this VOIP provider. I haven't heard of them so I thought I might ask the list. Anyone has any experience using them (http://www.optonline.net/Home, http://www.optimumvoice.com/index.jhtml)? Not just with Asterisk, even with their supplied HandyTone and a regular analog phone. Thanks -------------- next part -------------- An HTML

H.264 *Not Patented*
The H.264 codec patent by Qualcomm has been ruled invalid by a San Diego Federal jury: http://www.eetimes.com/news/semi/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=197001066 . That means that H.264 codecs can now be written, distributed and revised freely under any license their authors choose, including GPL, public domain, or any other, and $free now that royalties are no longer required. How does H.264

[OT] Bandwidth reporting tool recommendations
Hi, Also, does anyone have a recommendation for a reporting tool that shows bandwidth use, for each IP and each interface on a Shorewall FW? Tried BandwidthD, but couldn''t get it to compile on Mandrake10... NAAT might fit the bill - if it doesn''t mess-up my shorewall setup... Thanks for any suggestions, Richard.

rubynuby == I''m a''scared to set it all up...
I''ve been mostly lurking here with an occasional nuby question for a few weeks now. It seems like Ruby and Rails and the many libraries and tools growing up around it are a remarkable toolset. Unfortunately I''m finding the whole enchilada a bit daunting. It seems that if one is to truly tap into the power of this thing and do a significant amount of developing, one needs

Network Computing Newsletter article...
Hey gang... An SMB server comparison article just showed up at Network Computing. http://www.networkcomputing.com/1104/1104f3.html They compare three SMB servers including Samba 2.0.6 and we took first place (barely). Zinged us on central administration. Compaq's SMB server has central configuration and administration of multiple servers, which they liked a lot, apparently. Mike --

InfoWeek Article on VOIP
Here's t link: http://www.informationweek.com/story/showArticle.jhtml;jsessionid=JUEFVG ENEA01YQSNDBCCKH0CJUMEKJVN?articleID=165702588 The bottom line is that they compare retail VOIP providers like Comcast Cable, Time-Warner Cable, AT&T, Vonage, Packet8 et al. Their methodology seems sound. Their conclusion is that retail VOIP services don't yet match the PSTN for reliability &
