[Repost, with Formatting] Trying to understand unicode character entry, goes into postgres DB backing rails, saved to yaml as \xc4\x81
Apologies on unformatted send previously, i hit Enter and the web UI posted, to my chagrin. 1. Examine the Unicode standard''s code page collection for "Latin small letter a with macron". 2. Nets U0100.pdf 3. "Latin small letter a with macron" appears on chart as 0101. This is a hexidemial number which points to U+0101 as its code point. Converting 0101 to decimal

truncation/rounding bug with write.csv
My apologies for not including sessionInfo(), and I'm a bit angry at myself for that. Retrying in a fresh session of R, I get different results. More specifically, I get the expected result where accuracy is the same in the first and the last line. As I didn't include my sessionInfo() in my previous mail, I can't figure out why I now have a different result. So I'm positive

months not working with local language (weekdays does)
Hi, I want to reporte some strange behaviour with the "months" function, from base R. When using "months" to extract months from a date column, I'm getting the months in english, when I was expecting months in spanish. When using "weekdays" to extract days of week from a date column, I'm getting the the days in spanish (as expected). My understanding is

Try to come up with a self-contained example, not using the lodown and archive packages. I imagine you can do this by

months not working with local language (weekdays does)
Thank you Duncan and Rui for your time and interest in this issue. Maybe it is a problem with Windows 7 and Spanish, and not Windows 10. Let's wait for someone with the same enviroment, before assuming it's a problem with my PC/configuration. 2017-06-05 14:37 GMT-05:00 Duncan Murdoch <murdoch.duncan at gmail.com>: > For what it's worth, I tried setting my Region

months not working with local language (weekdays does)
For what it's worth, I tried setting my Region | Formats setting to Spanish (Peru) in Windows 10 Control Panel, and got Spanish weekday and month results. I believe on Windows we use the Microsoft C strftime function to produce these strings, with the %A (for weekday) or %B (for month) formats. So this question probably needs to be addressed to Microsoft. Duncan Murdoch On 05/06/2017

truncation/rounding bug with write.csv
What OS are you on? On Ubuntu 17.10 with R 3.4.3 all seems well (see below for your example, I just added a setwd()). [ That said, I long held a (apparently minority) view that csv is for all intends and purposes a less-than-ideal format. If you have that much data, you do generally not want to serialize it back and forth as that is slow, and may drop precision. The rds format is great for R

R survival package error message - bug?!
Dear all, I have encountered a weird behaviour in R survival package which seems to me to be a bug. The weird behaviour happens when I am using 100 variables in the ridge function when calling coxph with following formula Surv(time = futime, event = fustat, type = "right") ~ ridge(X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7, X8, X9, X10, X11, X12, X13, X14, X15, X16, X17, X18, X19, X20, X21, X22,
