Debugging tools and practices in Windows?
Right, I'm talking about C code. Do you remember if you had to set specific CFLAGS or other settings to get gdb working? I wasn't able to get gdb() working with the standard build settings. Otherwise, Rprintf() would work for sure. Thank you! On Thu, Feb 23, 2017 at 10:55 AM, Duncan Murdoch <murdoch.duncan at gmail.com> wrote: > On 23/02/2017 1:36 PM, Javier Luraschi wrote:

error allocating core memory buffers (code 22) at util2.c(106) [sender=3.1.2]
Hi: I'm in the middle of recoverying from a tactical error copying around an Mac OS X 10.10.5 Time Machine backup (turns out Apple's instructions aren't great...), and I had rsync running for the past 6 hours repairing permissions/acls on 1.5 TB of data (not copying the data), and then it just died in the middle with: .L....og.... 2015-03-11-094807/platinum-bar2/usr/local/mysql

Debugging
Hi! It's indeed better to open a new thread for this. So, here's my test session: $ qemu -fda extlinux.144 -s -S Then in another terminal: $ gdb extlinux.elf (gdb) set architecture i8086 (gdb) target remote localhost:1234 Remote debugging using localhost:1234 0x0000fff0 in ?? Problem syncing large dataset
Hi, When using rsync-3.0.2 through 3.0.5, I get this error on a large dataset syncing from machine-a to machine-b: $ /bin/rsync -aHSz /local/. machine-b:/local/. invalid len passed to map_ptr: -1737287498 rsync error: error in file IO (code 11) at fileio.c(188) [sender=3.0.5] This happens no matter which side initiates the connection, so this fails in the same way: $ /bin/rsync -aHSz

[LLVMdev] Debugging using gdb
Hi, I am trying to debug my llvm pass called -aa-eval-garg11 using gdb. However I am not able to establish a breakpoint in any function of my pass. I have compiled my pass with a debug build and I have also compiled the input file (using llvm-gcc) with the -g flag. Given below is the exact output. (gdb) break llvm::PassManager::run Breakpoint 1 at 0x86be87c: file

[LLVMdev] Getting the Debugging JIT-ed Code with GDB example to work
I'm trying to run the example described at: http://llvm.org/docs/DebuggingJITedCode.html I followed the sample command line session (below, with versions numbers for everything), but gdb doesn't stop at the breakpoints as described. Any idea what is wrong? Thanks, Zach zdevito at derp:~/terra/tests$ > ~/clang+llvm-3.4-x86_64-unknown-ubuntu12.04/bin/clang -cc1 -O0 -g >

[LLVMdev] llvm-ld stripping debugging symbols?
It seems that llvm-ld is stripping debugging symbols even with optimizations disabled: > cat main.c int main() { int a = 42; return a; } > clang -c -g -emit-llvm -o main.bc main.c > llvm-ld -disable-opt -b=a.out.bc main.bc > clang -g a.out.bc -o a.out >gdb a.out [...] (gdb) break main Breakpoint 1 at 0x40045b:

Trouble debugging with gdb, R on Windows
I'm trying to follow the example in the R for Windows FAQ on running gdb and am getting stuck because gdb tells me "Cannot access memory at address ...". Here's what my gdb session looks like (This one from a cygwin shell, but same results from plain Windows CMD shell): $ cd R-devel/src/gnuwin32 $ gdb ../../bin/Rgui.exe GNU gdb 5.2.1 Copyright 2002 Free Software Foundation,

Debugging advice
Hi folks, I am trying to debug a scientific / engineering application called SRIM (www.srim.org, particularly the batch-mode version of SRIM 2003 called "SRModule"). This is my first experience with a debugger like winedbg, so I am still learning how best to use it. My question for now is: given a known breakpoint, and a value to watch (in this case $ecx), is there an easy way to find

Dealing with printf() &c. in third-party library code
Dear all, I recognise the reason for strongly discouraging use of printf() and similar C functions in R packages, but I wonder what people do in practice about third-party code which may be littered with such calls. I maintain a package (RNiftyReg) which provides an R interface to a third-party library which contains hundreds of calls to printf(...), fprintf(stderr,...) and similar. It seems to

Differentiating debug messages from both sides
Some of the debug messages that rsync outputs (when verbose >= 2) can occur on both sides of the connection. This makes it hard to know which program is saying what. Some debug messages deal with this by outputting a "[PID]" string at the start of the message. Unfortunately, the startup message that tells us which pid is which is only output when verbose >= 3, so there's a

[LLVMdev] Debugging using gdb
Hi John, Yes, it was the problem of the namespace. Sorry for bugging for such a silly mistake. I need debugging tips?
Hi all, Like most other frameworks, Ruby groups code by Model/View/Controller instead of by task, and therefore I''m having a hard time debugging a problem from the Agile Rails book where looping through @items errors out because one or more items is nil. I managed to empty the cart by placing session[:cart] = nil in find_cart() in the store_controller_rb, and the problem continued

[LLVMdev] debugging llvm from clang using gdb
I've always debugged the backend llc by running it as a separate executable. I'm seeing a bug that only happens when I run the compiler from clang. How do you debug this from gdb? I can put a breakpoint but it never stops when I say "run ...." Tia. Reed
