Constructing bar charts with standard error bars
I am new to R.
I want to graph group data using a "Traditional Bar Chart with Standard
Error Bar", like the kind shown here:
http://samiam.colorado.edu/~mcclella/ftep/twoGroups/twoGroupGraphs.html
Is there a simple way to do this?
So far, I have only figured out how to plot the bars using barplot.
testdata <- scan(, list(group=0,xbar=0,se=0))
400 0.36038 0.02154
200 0.35927

How to include CI in a grouped barplot?
Hello everyone!
I need to include the confidence interval bar in a grouped barplot. I've
found some options on the web, but none of them solved my problem.
The question is: my barplot was created using vectors for each pair of bar
and them combining them using cbind.
I mean:
a=c(10,15)
b=c(20,24)
c=c(21,23) ...
hei=cbind(a,b,c)
graph1=barplot(hei, beside=T,...)
I've tried to include

barplot2, gap.barplot
Hello,
I try to handle a simple bar-plot, but it turns out to be not as simple
as I thought.
1) I have created a .dat-File, e.g. test.dat:
DATA DATA-SEM
2.2 0.32
6.2 1.30
12.7 1.61
48.6 3.08
4.1 0.86
4.5 0.32
1.5 1.13
1.2 1.08
The first row is the data represented by bars. The second row deals with
the Standard Error of Mean. The lines correspond to time-intervals of
experiments.
2) I now

Plot means with error bars - A novice needs help
Hello,
I'd appreciate a suggestion on how to construct plots (barplots?) that use
means on the Y axis instead of density/count. I'd also like to use groups
and plot error or confidence interval bars on these graphs. I know this is a
read the manual situation. I'd appreciate help with what to read, or your
benevolence with some sample code.
I've looked at lattice and gplots2, but

How can I put error bars on a barplot() ?
Hi all,
I am a relatively new R user... trying to put error bars (from SD values) on my data represented with barplot(). But I can't find any function or instruction to do so.
Is there an easier way to do this than using segments() as I saw in an example in the R reference manual ? Then, can I define there graphical apparence ?
Thanks for help.

abline() plot order
I am performing this sequence
barplot
title

abline
When abline renders the lines they appare to be in the layer
above the bars in the graph. Is there a way to make them
render first or 'behind' the bars?
Thanks.

barplot(2?) with CI from a zero reference line
Dear R Users, (and dear Marc)
First of all many thanks for the answers to my previous questions.
I would like to barplot the mean percent change of a variate with it's
CI. Bars should start from the zero reference line to height (in
barplot2).
Is there a way to tweak barplot2, for example, to do that ?
I have tried to see what the function was but unlike other functions was
not able to

barplot plotting problem
Hi,
Is there any equivalent of type="n" when constructing barplots which will
still construct the axes (plot=F, as it says doesn' plot anything at all).
Alternatively I tried setting col="white" and border="white" but the border
command does not seem to be operational. True??
Any other ideas? What I'm actually trying to do is construct vertical

Hopefully an easy error bar question
Hi im trying to add error bars to my barplots, there very basic, i have a few grapghs where the y variable is different but on all the X variable is Age (Adult and Juvenile) however this is split into two levels so i have males and females, so my graph basically has four bars on it.
I know how to add eror bars for instance when there is only one level eg lookng at the diffrence between male and

barplot2
Hello,
I get a nice looking barplot using the barplot2 function in the gregmisc
package:
body2 <- barplot2(hh3, beside = TRUE,
col = c("mistyrose", "lightcyan"),
....
cex.names = 1.0, plot.ci = TRUE, ci.l = cil, ci.u = ciu,
plot.grid = TRUE)
box()
However, obviously I lose the collors when converting from ps to a pdf

Wrapping long labels in barplot(2)
I am using barplot, and barplot2 in the gregmisc bundle, in the
following way:
barplot2(sort(xtabs(expend / 1000 ~ theme)),
col = c(mdg7, mdg8, mdg3, mdg1), horiz = T, las = 1,
xlab = "$ '000", plot.grid = T)
The problem is that the values of 'theme', which is a factor, are in
some cases rather long, so that I would like to wrap/split them at a
space once they

ylim in barplot2 function?
Hi list,
I'm using barplot2 form the gplots package to plot a few numbers (I want to add SD bars later).
However, I would like the y-axis not to start from 0 but 500. When I add the parameters YLIM, something goes wrong. The graph is not 'cut off' at 500. Instead the bars seems to sink trough the bottom of the graph.
Because its a little hard to explain, here is a self-containing

help
Hi,
help.I would like to plot the mean and standard deviation against a factor
in the xaxis- in other words I want an errorplot. I also want to put the
standard deviation like a "T" on top of a barplot. How can do this in R

Width of bars in barplot2
I'm using barplot2 to plot some data. Is there any way to determine
the width of the bars in the generated plot? I know that barplot2
returns a list of the coordinates of the center of each bar, but since
there is some white space between each bar, I don't know how to get
the width of each bar.

Help with ooplot(gplots) and error bars
Dear All
I am trying to graph a proportion and CI95% by a factor with ooplot (any
other better solution ?)
It works well until I try to add the confidence interval.
this is the error message and and a description of the data:

Diagramas de barras agrupados y apilados
¿Alguien sabe cómo dibujar un diagrama de barras agrupado (o apilado) con diferente
número de elementos en cada grupo y que la leyenda quede "correcta"?
Si utilizamos barplot (o barplot2 de gplots) podemos definir una matriz con columnas
las diferentes alturas para cada grupo y si un grupo tiene menos categorias
simplemente asignamos NA a los elementos sobrantes de esa columna. Pero no

Formatting names.arg
I am making a barplot using barplot2 from gplots and would like to
format the names of my categorical variables (tree species) on the x-
axis so that the genus name is above the species name (to save room).
My code so far is:
speciesnames<-c("Dialium guianensis", "Inga alba", "Tachigali
versicolor", "Brosimum utile", "Caryocar
