It's fairly easy to link against the libraries from rwinlib: https://github.com/rwinlib/zeromq. I'll send you a pull request later this week to fix the binary

[R] Problems when trying to install and load package "rzmq"
Hi, Paul. I maintian the rzmq project. love to get it running on windows, but zmq doesn't play nicely with R's mingw. These guys have taken the approach of building the entire zmq library inside the R package: https://github.com/snoweye/pbdZMQ I suggest you give it a try. or if you want to attempt to compile libzmq sources for windows w/ R's mingw, that would be welcome. -Whit

Understanding rsync --delete behavior
Hi, When running an rsync command of the form: $ rsync -avn --delete remotehost:/mnt/volsw_dev/AS5/ /mnt/volsw_dev/AS5 rsync wants to delete a slew of files and directories. Partial output includes, for example: deleting AS5/zeromq/2.2.0/share/man/man7/zmq_tcp.7 deleting AS5/zeromq/2.2.0/share/man/man7/zmq_pgm.7 deleting AS5/zeromq/2.2.0/share/man/man7/zmq_ipc.7 deleting

Issues when trying to fit a nonlinear regression model
Basic algebra and exponentials/logs. I leave those details to you or another HelpeR. -- Bert On Sun, Aug 20, 2023 at 12:17?PM Paul Bernal <paulbernal07 at gmail.com> wrote: > Dear Bert, > > Thank you for your extremely valuable feedback. Serializing many small objects efficiently
Hi, sorry if this question is trivial or unclear, this is my first venture into mixed C/R programming (I am reasonably experienced in each separately). I am trying to write a serialization function for a format called typedbytes, which is used as an interchange format in Hadoop circles. Since I would need to serialize according to the internal R format many small R objects I looked at the c

Issues when trying to fit a nonlinear regression model
Dear Bert, Thank you for your extremely valuable feedback. Now, I just want to understand why the signs for those starting values, given the following: > #Fiting intermediate model to get starting values > intermediatemod <- lm(log(y - .37) ~ x, data=mod14data2_random) > summary(intermediatemod) Call: lm(formula = log(y - 0.37) ~ x, data = mod14data2_random) Residuals: Min

Issues when trying to fit a nonlinear regression model
Oh, sorry; I changed signs in the model, fitting theta0 + theta1*exp(theta2*x) So for theta0 - theta1*exp(-theta2*x) use theta1= -.exp(-1.8) and theta2 = +.055 as starting values. -- Bert On Sun, Aug 20, 2023 at 11:50?AM Paul Bernal <paulbernal07 at gmail.com> wrote: > Dear Bert, > > Thank you so much for your kind and valuable feedback. Issues when trying to fit a nonlinear regression model
I got starting values as follows: Noting that the minimum data value is .38, I fit the linear model log(y - .37) ~ x to get intercept = -1.8 and slope = -.055. So I used .37, exp(-1.8) and -.055 as the starting values for theta0, theta1, and theta2 in the nonlinear model. This converged without problems. How to Transform a Factor Variable into a Date
A couple thoughts: 1. converting factors into dates often requires that they be converted to character first. 2. you don't really have dates; you have just months and years 3. therefore perhaps the as.yearmon() function in the zoo package could help library(zoo) my.factor <- factor("Feb 2017") as.yearmon(my.factor) ## gets around the factor-vs-character issue On Mon, Jun

Issues when trying to fit a nonlinear regression model
Dear Bert, Thank you so much for your kind and valuable feedback. I tried finding the starting values using the approach you mentioned, then did the following to fit the nonlinear regression model: nlregmod2 <- nls(y ~ theta1 - theta2*exp(-theta3*x), start = list(theta1 = 0.37, theta2 = exp(-1.8), theta3 =

Keep on getting message errors when trying to install and load packages
Dear Paul, We install R in C:/R/R-x.y.z and packages in C:/R/library. This makes the packages location independent from the R version. Best regards, ir. Up and running with ZeroMQ
Hi, As suggested earlier, I'm getting adept with the usage of ZeroMQ and understand its usage in the present context. What I have done till now is :- (1) Study ZeroMQ API and get in ease with its usage. Still implementing sample programs and learning basic functions. (2) Installed, compiled and setup my development environment with Xapian and ZeroMQ. Lots of work here already! Though, I

Unable to load packages RODBC and RODBCext in R
I don't use Windows, but this looks like a Windows permissions issue, no? You could try moving them yourself manually or create another library directory that R can access to put them in. ... or wait and hope for advice from someone who uses Windows to give you a definitive answer. Cheers, Bert Bert Gunter "The trouble with having an open mind is that people keep coming along and

R interpreting numeric field as a boolean field
Incidentally, "didn't work" is not very useful information. Please tell us exactly what error message or apparently aberrant result you received. Also, what do you get from: sapply(your_dataframe, "class") nrow(your_dataframe) (as I suspect what you think it is, isn't). Keep on getting message errors when trying to install and load packages
Dear Leslie and Thierry, Thank you so much for your kind and extremely valuable replies. Only one doubt remains, which path do you think is the best option to store downloaded packages? Should I set it up so that all installed packages are in the same folder (path) that I installed R? Or can I simply set it up so that all installed packages are stored in a different path? Again, thank you guys

Keep on getting message errors when trying to install and load packages
Dear Paul, Maybe some of the packages were installed by a user with admin rights and you are installing them with a user how has no admin rights. Thus you have no rights to remove the files created by the admin user. We made clear to our IT departement that they only may install R and not additional packages. We also tell them to set the environment variable R_LIBS_USER to C:/R/library and make
