summary.default rounding on numeric seems inconsistent with other R behaviors
John,
I had raised the matter ten years ago, and I was told that the topic was
already very^3 old
https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/r-devel/2006-September/042684.html
there is some discussion on its origin and also a declaration of intents to
change the default behaviour, which, unfortunately, remained a declaration.
I agree that R could do better here, let's hope in less than ten years

summary.default rounding on numeric seems inconsistent with other R behaviors
It is the old story of defined behaviour and expected outcomes. Hard to
change now.
So I would suggest you do something like this in your ~/.Rprofile:
R> smry <- function(...) summary(..., digits=6)
R> smry(155555L)
Min. 1st Qu. Median Mean 3rd Qu. Max.
155555 155555 155555 155555 155555 155555
R>
Maybe call it Summary() instead.

lm() takes weights from formula environment
Thank you for your suggestion. I do know how to work around the issue. I usually build a fresh environment as a child of base-environment and then insurt the weights there. I was just trying to provide an example of the issue.
emptyenv() can not be used, as it is needed for the eval (errors out even if weights are not used with "could not find function list").
For some applications

should base R have a piping operator ?
Hi John,
Thanks, but the Bizzaro pipe comes with many flaws though :
* It's not a single operator
* It has a different precedence
* It cannot be used in a subcall
* The variable assigned to must be on the right
* It doesn't trigger indentation when going to the line
* It creates/overwrite a `.` variable in the worksace.
And it doesn't deal gracefully with some lazy evaluation edge

yes... not impossible though... see below

restrictions for attribute access <Watchdog: Virus checked>
Hello everybody,
I have a problem with accessing class attributes. I think it might be
due to namespace access restrictions or something similar, but I'm
unable to figure it out, maybe someone knows the trick how to do
it ...
I'm trying to extract some information from the summary object for a
model fitted using the lmer function from the lme4 package:
smry <- summary(lmer(foo

should base R have a piping operator ?
Dear R-devel,
The most popular piping operator sits in the package `magrittr` and is used
by a huge amount of users, and imported /reexported by more and more
packages too.
Many workflows don't even make much sense without pipes nowadays, so the
examples in the doc will use pipes, as do the README, vignettes etc. I
believe base R could have a piping operator so packages can use a pipe in

YALAQ - Yet Another LApply Question
Hello,
Two lapply questions (system info and sample data below):
1) Why does the first form of command1 add the name of y _after_ the
str() output rather than before as does the second (preferred) form?
# command1 version1
invisible(lapply(ls(pattern='bn'), function(y) cat(y, "\n",
str(get(y)), "\n") ))
# command1 version2 (preferred output)

lm() takes weights from formula environment
I wish I had started with "I am disappointed that lm() doesn't continue its search for weights into the calling environment" or "the fact that lm() looks only in the formula environment and data frame for weights doesn't seem consistent with how other values are treated."
But I did not. So I do apologize for both that and for negative tone on my part.

should base R have a piping operator ?
Actually, base R already has a pipe fairly close to the one you describe: ->.;
iris ->.; head(.) ->.; dim(.)
# [1] 6 5
I've called it the Bizarro pipe ( http://www.win-vector.com/blog/2016/12/magrittrs-doppelganger/ <http://www.win-vector.com/blog/2016/12/magrittrs-doppelganger/> ), and for some reason we chickened out and didn't spend time on it in the dot pipe paper (

should base R have a piping operator ?
Hello,
R is a functional language, pipes are not. There are even higher order
functions such as [1] and [2].
Besides, packages are part of R, R couldn't live without them. I find
pipes a good idea but I also find it better not to have them as part of
base R. If you want to use them, load a package, if you don't, don't.
This simple.
As for your example, compose, there is a

Bus factor of dovecot / GIT
Hi,
somebody from the kolab groupware project recently explained me that the Bus-
Factor[1] of around 1 would be one of their primary reasons not to use Dovecot
and stick with Cyrus.
What do you think about that? Is the bus factor much higher then 1?
[1] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bus_factor
Somehow related: Since the free software world[2] slowly converges towards GIT
as the "one and

Libvirt 4.2.0 hang on destination on live migration cancel
I'm trying the following command on the source machine:
virsh migrate --live --copy-storage-all --verbose TEST qemu+ssh://
10.30.76.66/system
If I ssh into the destination machine when this command is running, I can
see NBD copying data as expected, and if I wait long enough it completes
and succeeds.
However if I ctrl+c this command above before it completes, it causes virsh

paste? 'cmd /c "c:\\pheno\\whap --file c:\\pheno\\smri --alt 1"'
Dear R users,
This command works (calling a programm -called whap- with file specifiers etc.):
>system('cmd /c "c:\\pheno\\whap --file c:\\pheno\\smri --alt 1 --perm 500"', intern=TRUE)
Now I need to call it from a loop to replace the "1" by different number, however I get lost using the quotes:
I tried numerous versions of:

Textmate Madness
Has anyone come across this problem... I created some Ruby files in Textmate
on my Mac - and everything works fine. However, when I run those files on a
Windows machine I get e.g.

Invalid char `\002'' in expression
