ALLOCATE in a FORTRAN subroutine
Hi Martyn,
Many thanks for your answer. If I make it short :
we can, once we know how to do it, 'drive' R from within FORTRAN for example to do a
Myarray = seq(0, mydimension)
in R once we have compute mydimension in FORTRAN. Is that correct ?
If yes : it's too 'complicated' for the time I am hired (I mean I have been hired to do FORTRAN code not to learn R !).

ALLOCATE in a FORTRAN subroutine
> You can call (some) R functionality from C
When I read about 'R api' I thought that we could call all the functionality of R. I think that in the windows world, this is called OLE automation. From a pure programmer point of view, it is very convenient and my customer is creating a team of programmers. But, if only 'some' functionalities can be called, it's not so useful.

difference between require and library
Hi,
Is there any other difference between 'require' and 'library' than the error or warning when the library is not found ?

AKIMA or translating to FORTRAN a R function calling a FORTRAN routine
Hi,
I am hired to translate into FORTRAN R functions. It works great and my customer is happy. I am going to translate a function that call aspline in the library AKIMA.
This function call 2 FORTRAN routines that must be include (I guess) in the package AKIMA. And I have some questions.
Is the fortran code really included in the R package AKIMA ?
In other word, do I have a mean to call these 2

Help running a Fortran subroutine from R
useR's,
I need help getting a Fortran DLL successfully returning the correct output.
The attached fortran source code (filter2d.f) and DLL (filter2d.dll) are
attached. Also, I attached a text file for which I want to apply the filter
to (time702.txt).
Here is what I am doing...

fortan common block
Is it possible in R to call a fortran routine that sets variables in a common block and expect the values to persist when a call is made from R to a second routine that uses the common block?
If not (as I suspect), is it possible to use a common block in a group of routines that are used together, for as long the routines do not return to R?

Least Absolute Deviation
Dear all,
I try to fit least absolute deviation (LAD) regression with R. I couldn't
find any command to carry out LAD. What I am doing now is using nlm() and
setting the function argument to minimize the sum of the absolute
deviation. But for some data it keeps giving out the error message: Error
in nlm(absdev, b.start) : non-finite value supplied by nlm. (there is no na
in my dataset.)

R DDD fortran
Is there an easy way to compile a packages's fortran so that it has the information for ddd or gdb to follow the lines of the code? I seem to remember seeing something about this, but I cannot find it in Writing R Extensions. (I see about Valgrind, debugging a segfault, and some other tricks, but what I really want is to follow the fortran logic.)
Thanks for any pointers,
Paul

ALLOCATE in a FORTRAN subroutine
Hi,
Until you get a more definitive answer, I will make an attempt to give some advice.
When using an assumed sized array (i.e. REAL*8 array1(*)) you still need to allocate the memory prior to calling the Fortran subroutine, so you would still need to know its maximum length.
Arrays created in a Fortran subroutine via the use of the ALLOCATE statements are not simple arrays (in the sense of C

Fortran subroutines dblepr, realpr, intpr
I am making my first attempts at using some Fortran code with R, and
so far it's going OK. To print from my Fortran programs, it seems I
need subroutines dblepr, realpr and intpr. From the excellent
"Writing R Extensions" document:
"Three subroutines are provided to ease the output of information

Linking Fortran subroutines
Hi,
I just started using R a few weeks ago and have a problem with linking Fortran subroutines to R. For some reasons, I need to compile a Fortran program in R (or Splus) and the whole program consists a couple of subroutines, say, subA and subB. There is no difficulty in linking the subroutines individually, but two subroutines are nested, as shown below,
SUBROUTINE subA(arg.)

R-Fortran question (multiple subroutines)
Dear R-helpers,
apologies if this is somewhere in a manual, I have not been able to
find anything relevant. I run Windows Vista.
I have some Fortran code in a subroutine, and have no problem calling
this from R with .Fortran, compiling the code either with 'R CMD
SHLIB' or independently with gfortran.
But is it possible to have more than one subroutine in my source file,
one depending

ALLOCATE in a FORTRAN subroutine
Hi,
"we can, once we know how to do it, 'drive' R from within FORTRAN"
I am not sure I understand what you mean by this ...
You can call routines written in Fortran or C from within R - how easy this is depends on the interfaces to those routines.
You can call (some) R functionality from C (see for example

compile Fortran code which calls C subroutine
I used "R CMD SHLIB" to compile the fortran filename.f file and the
filename.so is generated. But since in filename.f it calls
another subroutine written in C, i had problem in "dyn.load" because it
could not find the C subroutine.
I have the .c file but don't know how to tell R about it.
How should I compile when I want to call the fortran function
