Error in texi2dvi
Hello:
Changes in R seem to have broken the sos vignette, and I don't
know how to fix it. The build on R-forge,
"https://r-forge.r-project.org/R/?group_id=235&log=build_src&pkg=sos&flavor=patched",
ends as follows:
Error in texi2dvi(file = file, pdf = TRUE, clean = clean, quiet = quiet, :

Vignette problem and CRAN policies
Hello, All:
The vignette with the sos package used "upquote.sty", required for R
Journal when it was published in 2009. Current CRAN policy disallows
"upquote.sty", and I've so far not found a way to pass "R CMD check"
with sos without upquote.sty.
I changed sos.Rnw per an email exchange with Prof. Ripley without
solving the problem; see below. The

UTF8 markdown vignette
Dear all,
I'm trying to use a Markdown vignette with UTF-8 encoding. It compiles well when knitting the vignette in RStudio, but it fails to recognize the UTF-8 settings when building the source package. Can someone point out what I'm doing wrong? I tried to put the relevant information below.
Best regards,
Thierry

UTF8 markdown vignette
Dear Duncan,
The UTF-8 characters aren't properly rendered in the pdf version of the vignette.
$?? ????? ?????? ?????? ????? ?? ?? is rendered as $????? ?????????? ???????????? ????? ?????? ? ???????? ????????
The same problem occurs when I use render("vignette.md", output_format = "mypackage::mystyle"), instead of render("vignette.md", output_format =

vignette output: word_document problems
Hello:
Clicking "Knit Word" in RStudio 0.99.893 with R 3.3.0, works
fine with a vignette with "output: word_document". However, "R CMD
build" throws the following error:
$ R CMD build pkgW2vignettes

UTF8 markdown vignette
A few things to clarify:
1. You do not necessarily have to keep the \usepackage{} line if you
use %\VignetteEncoding{UTF-8}, because Pandoc will use UTF-8 anyway in
its LaTeX template.
2. Perhaps the vignette engine in R has done something clever to
convert utf8 to UTF-8, but I'd recommend %\VignetteEncoding{UTF-8}
instead of %\VignetteEncoding{utf8} to make sure it is a valid
encoding name,

Precompiled vignette on CRAN
Hello,
my package passes R CMD check without any warnings on my local machine (Mac OS), as well as on Uwe Ligges' Winbuilder. On RForge, however, we sometimes run into problems building the Sweave vignettes.
Now here's my question: is it necessary for a CRAN submission that the Sweave vignettes can be compiled on CRAN, or is it possible to provide the (locally compiled) pdf vignette to

Writing my first CRAN vignette
In fact my first vignette full stop.
I am intending to use Sweave. I have read the Sweave documentation
and section 1.4 of the extensions manual and apart from (a) do not
use split = TRUE (b) and include all the source components, there
does not seem to be anything CRAN specific.
1 - Am I missing some other documentation?
2 - If I use a package from CTAN would that be considered within the

objects intermittently shared between vignettes
Hello:
Is it widely known that objects not explicitly deleted from one
vignette in a package can be available to a second in "R CMD build" and
"R CMD check" but not when the second vignette is built manually, at
least under RStudio on Mac OS X 10.11.4 using R 3.3.0?
For an example, see

Linking to documentation from a vignette using markdown?
Hello:
What's the preferred way to link to package documentation from a
vignette using markdown?
My current draft includes

to link to the help page for cusum{base} and
"[KFAS](https://rweb.crmda.ku.edu/cran/web/packages/KFAS/KFAS.pdf)" to

Gaussian Quadrature for arbitrary PDF
Hi all,
We know that Hermite polynomial is for
Gaussian, Laguerre polynomial for Exponential
distribution, Legendre polynomial for uniform
distribution, Jacobi polynomial for Beta distribution. Does anyone know
which kind of polynomial deals with the log-normal, Studentæ¯ t, Inverse
gamma and Fisheræ¯ F distribution?
Thank you in advance!

CRAN: How to list a non-Sweave doc under "Vignettes:" on package page?
Hi,
is it possible to have non-Sweave vignettes(*) in inst/doc/ be listed
under 'Downloads' on CRAN package pages? For instance, in my R.rsp
package I have a inst/doc/report.pdf (part of the source *.tar.gz)
that is not detected/listed. The PDF is not based on a Sweave
vignette but an *.tex.rsp vignette that is dynamically created via
inst/doc/Makefile. It is listed

Wishlist: Vignettes on CRAN
I was recently browsing through CRAN's Finance task view to remind
myself of the publicly available packages relevant to my work. As the
reference manuals are all online, I am able to flip through the
available functions to get an idea of the package's scope before
downloading.
That said, many authors have taken the time to additionally provide a
useful vignette which provides a better

I used the cran instructions for installing R on Linux Mint Maya (here: http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/debian/).
Things went well but I got the following error messages:
