Where to declare S4 classes?
Dear listers,
I am making a trial to move from S3 to S4... I have created some classes
of interest and they work acceptably well for the purpose. I am now
wondering how to make them operate in a package. In clear when a package
is loaded (eg library(mypackage)) where should I put the class descriptions:

LaTex error when creating DVI version when compiling package
Dear Listers,
I got this message when compiling a package:
* creating pgirmess-manual.tex ... OK
* checking pgirmess-manual.text ... ERROR
LaTex errors when creating DVI version.
This typically indicates Rd problems.
The message is quite explicit but I struggled a lot before understanding
that the trouble comes from a single file "selMod.rd" among 44 topics.

writing polygons/segments to shapefiles (.shp) or other ArCGIS compatible file
I am not sure a previous e-mail reached the list (no mail aknowledgement from R-boundle etc.). The question was how to write polygon
or segment coordinates into a shapefile set or any other ArcGIS supported format. The library shapefiles seems to do something but
the documentation is a bit beyond of my mind.... and I cannot get the meaning of the functions write**** and its application to the

POSIX, time zone and Windows
Dear Listers,
Apologize to pile up on the 'tz' issue in POSIX objects. I have a
'simple' thing on which I must make up my mind but cannot do it from the
existing R-help threads. I am currently working on dog telemetry in
China, and download time information from GPS collars. I would like to
set up the corresponding POSIXxx variables in R to a given time zone. Eg

Dear listers,
I have written a function to facilitate the drawing of altitude profiles

AIC and anova, lme
Dear listers,
Here we have a strange result we can hardly cope with. We want to
compare a null mixed model with a mixed model with one independent
variable.

More than 150 MB / second encoding ?
Hello,
Is there some version of FLAC that allows very very fast encoding (i.e.
able to process at least 150 MB / second of .wav input data on a standard
computer : laptop computer, Core i5/i7, Windows 7 64 bit, 8 GB RAM) ?
(It's ok to have a compression ratio which is a little bit lower than
traditionnal FLAC)
I'm looking for something which is between FLAC (very good ratio, slower

Memory limitation in GeoR - Windows or R?
Dear Aaron,
I am really a tool user and not a tool maker (actually an ecologist
doing some biostatistics)... so, I take the liberty of sending a copy of
this e-mail to the r-help list where capable computer persons and true
statisticians may provide more relevant information and also to Paulo
Ribeiro and Peter Diggle, the authors of geoR..
I really feel that your huge matrix cannot be

Interconnecting two lans using Asterisk over a PSTN
Hello,
I am a newbie in Asterisk IP PBX but I am very impressed by its
functionalities.
I have read that It can work over IP network and across the PSTN.
I am not very sure how it works over the PSTN..
In case if people have not yet the Internet or SDL access, I would like just to
know if it is possible to interconnect two IP LANs using the traditionnal
analog Network and Asterisk PBX? In such I

(see detailed script below). I am working with it since some months with
excellent results (I do'nt use compiled C code so far). Just adding a new

I am trying to install add-on in R (rw1070) to work with WinEdit. Libraries Swinregistry and Rwinedt have been installed via "Install Package(s) from local zip files" from R. However, when I run library(Rwinedt) I get the following messages:

metafile copy and R 1.9.0
Dear all,
I'm running into problem in R-1.9.0 that hasn't happened with R-1.8.x
If I make a plot with xyplot(), and use the menu to either save to a metafile or copy to clipboard as a metafile to export to eg
Powerpoint, I can just copy a blank then. This does not occur with the classical plot(). Thus, I suppose that it may come from
lattice or grid (going through the R-archives I

Best way to connect asterisk to an traditional PBX
Hi list,
we want to connect asterisk to an traditionnal PBX (EADS 6550/Matra).
People from telco told that they can't connect two PBX's using E1/T1 or
only with QSig signaling.
I wanted to use EuroISDN. In this case, it was me told that VN6-VN7
would be used. The PBX has a spare ADQ card installed on which we would
connect. Has someone a such working setup? Is it working well?

Define tick mark width
Hello,
Is there a way to define the width of the axis tick marks on
traditionnal plots? I did not find anything specific on this topic in
the help and par(lwd=...) does not affect the tick marks. I guess that
using axes=FALSE and recreating the axis with the axis() command could
do the trick but I wonder if there is no easier way.
Thanks in advance

What goodness-of-fit measure for robust regression ?
Hi,
i. After estimating some coefficients using robust regression with rlm() or lqs(), I wonder if there exist some measures of the goodness-of-fit as those for standard linear model(R2)... or evenly if it's a statistics non-sense to look for since I do not find any mention of that in differents chapters on robust and resistant regression or in severals R documentation (Fox, Ripley and

subtotal, submean, aggregate
Dear All,
I would like to make partial sums (or means or any other function) of
the values in intervals along a sequence (spatial transect) where groups
are defined.
For instance:

observations<-rpois(length(habitats),2)
