dir list behavior differences?
Hello, I have set up an anonymous rsync server that seems to work as expected. However when I try to access the server from several other unix boxes using rsync with a command like this; rsync netlib3.cs.utk.edu::netlib I get the motd and then a line that states client: nothing to do Now I would expect this to give me a directory listing. I do get the directory listing as expected when

two almost identical packages: best practice
Hi I have written a whole bunch of methods for objects of class "octonion". [ an octonion is a single column of an eight-row matrix. Octonions have their own multiplication rules and are a generalization of quaternions, which are columns of a four-row matrix. ] So far I've done about a dozen generic functions such as seq.octonion(), rep.octonion(), [<-.octonion(), and so on

automatic chi-square grouping in R
I'm doing some chi-square tests, and I recall some arbitrary rule that says each band must have at least 5 events in order for the test to be meaningful. Is there some way to do the banding automagically in R ? For instance, in the following survdiff, I'm trying to see if ADL affects survival. But when ADL=3,5 and 6, the number observed is too little. Anyway for me to tell R how to group

unstable corner of parameter space for qbeta?
Despite the need to focus on pbeta, I'm still willing to put in some effort. But I find it really helps to have 2-3 others involved, since the questions back and forth keep matters moving forward. Volunteers? Thanks to Martin for detailed comments. JN On 2020-03-26 10:34 a.m., Martin Maechler wrote: >>>>>> J C Nash >>>>>> on Thu, 26 Mar 2020

Samba Secondary Groups
This has been bugging me for years but never got around to spending a lot of time on it until I now want/need to use it for work stuff. Problem is simple I get access denied when trying to create a file in a directory that is not owned by me or my primary group that doesn't have world writable permissions. Ive also had similar issues with NFS mounts where I can't move/create/delete files

Creating a vector class
I'm trying to create a package for working on orientation data, i.e. data where the observations are 3D rotations. There are several different representations of orientations in common use: SO(3) matrices, Euler angles, unit quaternions, etc. One thing I'd like is to make it convenient to work in any representation, and have conversions to others done as needed. I'm trying to do

vectorized uni-root?
dear R experts--- I have (many) unidimensional root problems. think loc.of.root <- uniroot( f= function(x,a) log( exp(a) + a) + a, c(.,9e10), a=rnorm(1) ) $root (for some coefficients a, there won't be a solution; for others, it may exceed the domain. implied volatilities in various Black-Scholes formulas and variant formulas are like this, too.) except I don't need 1 root, but a

vector S4 classes
In the Green Book, section 7.5 discusses new vector classes and uses quaternions as an example of a vector class that needs more than one number per element. I would like to define a new class that has a numeric vector and a logical vector of the same length that specifies whether the measurement was accurate. The following code does not behave as desired: >

[LLVMdev] OT: new here, dynamic/runtime compilation (in general)
well, sadly, I am not sure how people are on this list... in any case, LLVM is an interesting project, and may well continue being interesting. but, in my case, I have done my own compilation framework... ok, I didn't really hear about the really interesting bits of LLVM until after I had (more or less) wrote mine... ok, my point is to maybe to have something interesting to talk about, not

[LLVMdev] Improving cast<> failure messages.
Would anyone object to an attempt to improve cast<> error messages by outputting the expected type and the type received? The interface I'm thinking of is to use ADL to do visitor-style lookup, so we don't need to change every client. In particular, for clients in clang, we can just create these functions implicitly from our TableGen-generated files. I'm not sure about

[LLVMdev] Publication: Two LLVM-related papers
Hi, i've two papers that could be listed on the LLVM publication page. http://www.llvm.org/pubs/ The first paper describes an architecture description language and LLVM back-end generation out of an ADL. The second paper describes a cluster VLIW back-end for LLVM 2.9, just before this VLIW initiative started for LLVM. Kind regards, Timo Stripf Stripf, T.; Koenig, R.; Becker, J.; , "A

[LLVMdev] next
In many places there is code that looks like: MBBI = next(MBBI); In C++0X there is a std::next that is likely to be in scope when these calls are made. And due to ADL the above call becomes ambiguous: llvm::next or std::next? I recommend: MBBI = llvm::next(MBBI); -Howard

octonions
Hi I thought it would be fun to develop R functionality for the octonions (there is already some work on quaternions). The octonions are an 8 dimensional algebra over the reals, so an octonion may nicely be represented as a real vector of length 8. Applications are many and varied, mostly quantum mechanics. I would like to develop some R functionality in this area. My first problem is how

FMOLS DOLS and ADL regression
Whether can any R package run Full modified OLS (Phillips and Hansen 1990 ), DOLS (Stock and Watson 1993) and ADL model (Pesaran and Shin 2001) for cointegrated VAR model? I cannot find any useful order in VAR and SVAR package. Thanks. Eric Wang [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

I am pretty sure the .cpp files always explicitly use "llvm" namespace. Look for: using namespace llvm; Is that sufficient?
