Occasionally, usually during a zone transfer, I get unusual Shorewall messages, like this: Sep 30 20:30:08 yoreach kernel: Shorewall:FORWARD:REJECT:IN=eth1 OUT=eth1 SRC=10.1.1.1 DST=10.1.1.230 LEN=54 TOS=0x00 PREC=0x00 TTL=63 ID=21332 DF PROTO=UDP SPT=4778 DPT=53 LEN=34 where the src is the DNS master, and the DST is the slave server.

nls
nls() is using 1) only a Gauss-Newton code which is prone to some glitches 2) approximate derivatives Package nlmrt uses symbolic derivatives for expressions (you have to provide Jacobian code for R functions) and an aggressive Marquardt method to try to reduce the sum of squares. It does return more information about the problem (singular values of the final Jacobian and gradient at the proposed

on remote machine: --remove-source-files: unknown option
I'm trying to sync from 3.0.5 to 2.5.5 (SCO, *sigh*) The source machine errors out b/c the --remove-source-files (or --remove-sent-files) options don't exist on 2.5.5. But, since these option are only acted on by the sending machine (which is where I'm typing the command line), it would be so nice if the source machine would NOT pass the option on to the receiver (or at least, not

Sync different copies of a filesystem
I have 5 or 6 :-( different copies of a filesystem on various Linux boxen, all backups taken at different times, with different exclusions, and squirreled away. Now's the time to clean up my attic. I'd like to merge them all into one big filesystem. When there are different copies of the same files, I'd like to keep the newest; I don't know what else to do. My plan (assuming

[Bridge] [RFC PATCH net-next 3/5] flow_offload: Reject matching on layer 2 miss
Adjust drivers that support the 'FLOW_DISSECTOR_KEY_META' key to reject filters that try to match on the newly added layer 2 miss option. Add an extack message to clearly communicate the failure reason to user space. Example: # tc filter add dev swp1 egress pref 1 proto all flower skip_sw l2_miss true action drop Error: mlxsw_spectrum: Can't match on "l2_miss". We have

Trouble with volume permissions
I'm working on an integration that uses QCOW2 volumes with backing stores. I have qemu configured to run as the "qemu" user, which seems to be fine. I now need to make sure my volumes are readable by this user. However, it seems the volume being created is owned by root, instead of "qemu" as I'd expect it to be. I tried various things and was unable to get it to create

Can't get samba to start.
Hey, I'm having problems with samba. It has never worked properly on my server since I've had it installed.. Its for a home server, running xbox-Linux Fedora Core 6. I've just uninstalled every trace of the old samba, and started a fresh. With the latest samba sources I found on the website. The nmbd starts fine, but smbd never starts, and in the kernel log, I get the following

How to pass USB device to the guest VM
Hi, I am trying to access my Galaxy Tab from Samsung KIES running on Windows 7 inside a KVM VM. This unfortunately does not seem to work as expected. My Distribution is debian unstable. I therefore have qemu-system-x86 version 1.4.0+dfsg-1exp, libvirt 1.0.3-1 and virt-manager 0.9.4-2. lsusb shows the Tab as follows: Bus 001 Device 016: ID 04e8:6877 Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd Galaxy S in

dom0 eth0:0, eth0:1, eth0:2 network setup alias ips
I''ve got 3 different sets of public ips, each with it''s own static ips, and default gateways, and only one physical ethernet port. I''d like to be able to setup domUs that use the various ips, and route through the gateway for that particular IP. My problem is that when I setup these ip addresses as alias on eth:0, only one set of ips/netmask/gateway will work. any

Workaround for KSplice with libguestfs
Hello, If anyone happens to run into an issue with trying to mount/use image files with libguestfs when ksplice is installed on the host system. This is the workaround. Server String - getting, viewing with Linux
When viewing a list of network computers with Windows Explorer, it shows the server names and the server strings, i.e.; Bobs computer in accounting (WS1), where (WS1) is the netbios name. Is there any way to get the server string to show on Linux? It'd be nice to see it in Nautilus, but I know I'll have to ask them. If there were a Samba utility that would retrieve it, that would do

[Bridge] [PATCH net-next 0/5] Add layer 2 miss indication and filtering
tl;dr ===== This patchset adds a single bit to the skb to indicate that a packet encountered a layer 2 miss in the bridge and extends flower to match on this metadata. This is required for non-DF (Designated Forwarder) filtering in EVPN multi-homing which prevents decapsulated BUM packets from being forwarded multiple times to the same multi-homed host. Background ========== In a typical EVPN
