CRAN R 4.0.0 for Ubuntu repos missing r-recommend dependency
I noticed that R 4.0.0 is now available for ubuntu on CRAN. I attempted to
do a clean install on 18.04 using:
sudo apt install r-base
after adding
deb https://cloud.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu bionic-cran40/
to /etc/apt/sources.list.
Unfortunately, apt reports that r-recommend is a dependency and it won't be
installed. Upon inspecting the R4.0 repos r-recommend is missing not only

CRAN R 4.0.0 for Ubuntu repos missing r-recommend dependency
Hi Dirk,
Thanks for the suggested workarounds. This was just a VM I had spun up so I
could test R4.0.0. I'm happy to wait for Michael to fix it when he has time.

Seconded. You should not expect that mixing apt entries for Ubuntu and Debian
will work.

Thanks! ?"jammy" made it work. ?
For some reason, ?lsb_release -cs is returning "victoria" rather than "jammy",
and

Looks like `lsb_release -cs` returns a Mint codename for you.
Thankfully, since we know that Linux Mint 21 is based on Ubuntu 22.04
"Jammy Jellyfish", it

CRAN R 4.0.0 for Ubuntu repos missing r-recommend dependency
Hi Dirk,
Could there be a typo on
https://cloud.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/README.html? The installation
entries mention cran35 for R 4.0. Should that be cran40?
Best regards,
Thierry

Xenial rpart package on CRAN built with wrong R version?
Hello,
I just upgraded my Ubuntu Xenial system to R 3.5.1 (from 3.4.?) by changing the sources.list entry and doing an "apt-get dist-upgrade". Everything works except loading the rpart package in R:

However, trying this on Linux Mint gave
package ?installr? is not available (for R version 3.4.2)
Has the package not been updated yet?

Try the installr package. It was designed for this purpose.

R installation problems on Linux Mint 18.1 via jessie-cran3
Okay folks, I give up and - frankly - I'm fed up! I thought I'd sorted all
this last week, but clearly not. I've tried using mirrors from here in the
UK, Ireland, France and the USA and whichever mirror I use, all I get is
this:
clive at climate ~ $ sudo apt-get update

Xenial rpart package on CRAN built with wrong R version?
I manually downloaded the rpart package and installed it using dpkg, without removing the old rpart package first, and now everything works. During the installation, dpkg said:
Unpacking r-cran-rpart (4.1-13-1cran1xenial0) over (4.1-13-1cran1xenial0)
So again, it seemed that the new version had been installed, but it really wasn?t. I had no idea that something like this could happen. Huh.

R-4.0.0 and Texlive 2020 installed on EmmabuntusDE4 (Debian Bullseye)
Hi Johannes,
Thank you for your comments. I run
sudo apt install -t bullseye-cran40 r-base
and have now the current R-4.0.0 in /usr/lib/R with links in the menus
and R-devel R-4.1.0 in ~/patrice/svn/R/r-devel/build. Perfect.
I used sid just to get the full Texlive 2020. I will probably not update
it for a while and have already removed (commented) the sid line in
sources.list as I do not
