avahi and mDNS
Trying to figure out how to make it work. Seems as though it should be
pretty easy.
installed package (from yum search)
avahi-compat-libdns_sd.i386 : Libraries for Apple Bonjour mDNSResponder
compatibility.
/etc/nsswitch.conf altered line so it reads,
hosts: files dns mdns mdns4
started avahi-dnsconfd service (don't know that it's needed)
restarted avahi-daemon service

How do I list avahi advertisements
how do I find out what avahi services my server is advertising?
I installed avahi-tools and tried
avahi-browse -a (and -ac) and nothing was listed. I find it hard to
believe that my system that has apache up and running is not advertising
anything?

dovecot and avahi
I am trying to figure out if I need avahi on my mail server. I see that
POP3 and IMAP are services that Avahi can advertise/discover. Does
Dovecot work with Avahi and how do you get POP3 and IMAP advertised?
And perhaps more importantly, what clients look for mail services this way?
I can't find any information on this in the Dovecot documentation ot
googling. Perhaps my search fu is

Duplicate entry in macOS "Network" when using Samba 4.9.1 and avahi 0.7
Hi.
I configured a simple samba server. As I need this server to be available in macOS ?Network? list, I configured avahi.
When I start smb.service and avahi-daemon.service I get two results in the ?Network? section.
When I don?t use avahi I get no entry.
Why are there two entries and which best practice can I use to have only one entry?
Thanks!
Steven

issue with fruit:model not using avahi correctly?
hey folks,
I am trying to change the fruit:model value for changing the icon in the mac os finder.
After digging a little bit in the source code I saw that "source3/smbd/avahi_register.c" does not contain a line where info like
<service>
<type>_device-info._tcp</type>
<port>0</port>
<txt-record>model=RackMac</txt-record>
is added to avahi.

How on centos 5.1 do you inquire from avahi what devices are out there?
Is there a command line to run that just lists all device found?
