r-base-dev not installing in Ubuntu 16.04
I have recently re-installed R on my Ubuntu system to get R 3.5 and found this to have worked: # you may need to remove incumbent repos e.g. with: sudo apt-add-repository --remove ppa:marutter/rrutter # add new repos sudo apt-add-repository ppa:marutter/rrutter3.5 # for base R sudo apt-add-repository ppa:marutter/c2d4u4.5 # for pkgs - this saved me lots of time installing my set-up At the end

Ubuntu 18.04 bionic: availability of R Ubuntu packages/ppa?
Hi I just upgraded to the Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, and tried to add both the "Ubuntu packages" source as well as ppa. I was not able to do this, trying to add for example: deb http://cran.cnr.berkeley.edu/bin/linux/ubuntu bionic/ or using: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:marutter/c2d4u am I doing something wrong, or just being impatient? Are there any plans to build these repos in the near

c2d4u3.5 ppa for Ubuntu 20.04?
Hi I tried to use Michael's ppa after having installed Ubuntu 20.04 and R 4, and it seems the ppa is not available now for 20.04, I get message: The repository 'http://ppa.launchpad.net/marutter/c2d4u3.5/ubuntu focal Release' does not have a Release file Am I doing something wrong, or is it correct that it is not available yet? Are there any plans to implement it at some point?

Xenial rpart package on CRAN built with wrong R version?
I manually downloaded the rpart package and installed it using dpkg, without removing the old rpart package first, and now everything works. During the installation, dpkg said: Unpacking r-cran-rpart (4.1-13-1cran1xenial0) over (4.1-13-1cran1xenial0) So again, it seemed that the new version had been installed, but it really wasn?t. I had no idea that something like this could happen. Huh.

R on Ubuntu
Hi everyone, first of all, my sincerest thanks for the maintainers of this massive project. Such a compelling task! Briefly, I?m a PhD student working on Spatial Stats who loves R. Last week I decided to install and use Ubuntu (again). Consequently, I install the latest release (18.04) and tried to install R 3.5.0 as well but (un)fortunately I couldn?t. I have used R within Ubuntu and I use to

Please be careful with R 3.4.2 upgrades via CRAN, launchpad, ...
Corrected packages are now on the RRutter PPA ( https://launchpad.net/~marutter/+archive/ubuntu/rrutter) and soon on CRAN mirrors. If you have any issues or questions, please let me know. Please be careful with R 3.4.2 upgrades via CRAN, launchpad, ...
Please be careful with upgrades to R 3.4.2. To cut a long story short, this has to do with minor internal changes in R 3.4.0 from April which require _some_ packages to be rebuilt. I argued for that approach (ie: incremental, careful, no side effects) within Debian, and lost. The _official_ packages in Debian now carry a new tag r-api-3.4 (as opposed to previous r-api-3) in order to force clean

Advice on article about installing R on Linux
Dear list, I've drafted an article on installing geographic R packages on Linux computers and would appreciate any feedback. Is the following text correct, useful and future-proof?: R?s spatial packages can be installed from source on recent (since Ubuntu 19.04) versions of this popular operating system, once the appropriate repository has been set-up, meaning faster install times (only a

R 3.5.0 Binaries for Ubuntu now available
Binaries for R 3.5.0 are now available at a new PPA: https://launchpad.net/~marutter/+archive/ubuntu/rrutter3.5 These have not been mirrored to CRAN as I want to have the other r-cran packages built against R 3.5 before adding to CRAN. Worried about breaking working systems currently on R 3.4.4. Status updates on my twitter account @marutterstat. Michael

Cannot Install R to Trusty 14.04
Timothy, The link from stackoverflow gave some bad advice, IMO. You should be using the RRutter PPA, not RDev. RDev is the where I build not-ready-for-prime-time versions of R, and sometimes they break other things. RRutter is what is used to seed CRAN. Here is the link: https://launchpad.net/~marutter/+archive/ubuntu/rrutter I would remove the RDev PPA and install RRutter. The newest

Package selectr: issue with the apt-get version, but not with the one installed from R?
Hi I am facing an issue with the package selectr, where I get an error trying to run an example code: css_to_xpath(".testclass"), gives could not find function "xpath_class" The issue arises however only with the package installed with apt-get, not when installed from within R. I got a similar issue with maptools, where I was not able to use data(wrld_map), and switching to
