Tesseract OCR enginer
Has anyone here tried the new Tesseract OCR engine that google has recently released? I gave it a whirl last night. IT compiles more or less fine on Centos 4.4 if you don't mind lots of warnings. Took a scanned image I already had that contained a column of newspaper text, GIMP'ed it to cut everything but the text, increased contrast to get rid of grayish background, saved as

bug in r-cran-curl from c2d4u
On Bionic with c2d4u I see: The following packages have been kept back: r-cran-curl The problem is that r-cran-curl from 2d4du has a runtime dependency on libcurl4-openssl-dev. This dev package cannot be installed in conjunction with libcurl4-gnutls-dev (which again is required by some other packages). This is a bug because libcurl4-openssl-dev should be a build-depends only, the runtime

R 3.5.0 Binaries for Ubuntu now available
Binaries for R 3.5.0 are now available at a new PPA: https://launchpad.net/~marutter/+archive/ubuntu/rrutter3.5 These have not been mirrored to CRAN as I want to have the other r-cran packages built against R 3.5 before adding to CRAN. Worried about breaking working systems currently on R 3.4.4. Status updates on my twitter account @marutterstat. Michael

Substitute instruction with a jump to a library code
I'm trying to find a way to emulate a floating point instruction, say a floating point add. My understanding is that in order to do that I need to execute setOperationAction(ISD::FADD, (MVT::f32, Expand); setOperationAction(ISD::FADD, (MVT::f64, Expand); in MyTargetISelLowering.cpp, MyTargetLowering::MyTargetLowering(...). However for some reason I'm still seeing a floating point add in

Are there any plans to implement it at some point?

c2d4u: apt sees new package version as a downgrade
Hello, I noticed a strange thing when attempting to upgrade a specific package (lavaan) from c2d4u and wondered if someone could confirm the problem. In short, apt seems to think that an older version from the "universe" repo is higher than the newer version from c2d4u. When I do apt-cache showpkg r-cran-lavaan I get the output at the bottom of this email. Then, I tried to force

A guide to R packages for Ubuntu
Hi everyone, I am using the backports from http://cran.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/lucid/ on Lucid and would like to create a bunch of additional r-cran packages on my workstation. Where can I find the latest scripts to automatically create those packages? Is https://r-forge.r-project.org/projects/cran2deb/ still up-to-date? Best -Dominique
