proplems installing R 2.5 on Ubuntu 14.04
Hi,
i'd like to install R 2.5 on an Ubuntu 14.04.
I have a special software requiring this old version.
While ./configure, i get the following error:
checking for mbstate_t... yes
checking for X... no
configure: error: --with-x=yes (default) and X11 headers/libs are not available
The problem is that i don't know which headers or libraries are missing, and when i search with aptitude in

Error when running configure on xeon with r-1-9-patched
Dear list,
I'm having a problem configuring R-1-9-patched on a Intel Xeon machine
running Fedora Core 2. I used svn to checkout the source, altered
config.site to add some optimisation flags to match the Fedora rpm on
CRAN (the flags work fine on two other P3 or P4 machines I've compiled R
on).
./configure fails with:

suppressing stderr output from system() calls
Dear list,
I'm trying to suppress/redirect/squash the output from commands like install.packages, or download.file. The problem is that none of: sink(..., type="message"), sink(..., type="output"), capture.output, suppressMessages are quite doing the trick. Output gets written to the stderr stream, despite any combination of the above suppression commands.

R on the Zaurus link
Hello All,
The link to the binary & installation instructions (tar.gz binary not an ipk
I'm afraid) is as follows: http://students.bath.ac.uk/enpsgp/Zaurus/#R
It eventually dawned on me that the WORDS_BIGENDIAN define (or lack thereof)
was causing the problems (after testing ieee NaN compliance that is).
When cross-compiling it's probably fair enough that the configure script

configure: error: linking to Fortran libraries from C fails
Hi all,
Nice one for a Friday afternoon ...
I'm trying to follow this section of the manual :
http://cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/r-devel/R-exts.html#Using-Undefined-Behaviour-Sanitizer
to build R-devel (as of a few hours ago: rev 66684) with

My OS is Linux Mint Debian Edition. To get gcc-4.9 I added Debian

(PR#8017) build of REventLoop package crashes with 2.1 due
In what way is this a bug in R? It looks like a bug in the package, and
as Defn.h is not part of R's API any packge using it is `at risk' (and
cannot be installed in a binary-only installation, or even an installed
version of R).
In particular, Defn,.h depends on config.h, and it seems you installed a
binary version of R and used separate sources. I would suggest building

Solaris 8, Can't find recent OpenSSL libcrypto
I have probably trivial problem in OpenSSH installation,
but do not see it - could you help, please ?
The libcrypto has been installed.
caroubier% ls -l /usr/local/ssl/lib/libcrypto.a
-rw-r--r-- 1 root other 2778744 Nov 19 17:53 /usr/local/ssl/lib/libcrypto.a
But the openssh stops with Can't find recent OpenSSL libcrypto.
Thank you very much in advance,

Compiling R on Linux with SunStudio 12.1: "wide-character type" problems
I am trying to compile R on Linux using SunStudio. Configure flags are
mostly as suggested in the R install guide.

wchar and wstring.
Hello all, I am writing an R interface to some C++ files which make use
of std::wstring classes for internationalization. Previously (when I
wanted to make R strings from C++ std::strings), I would do something
like this to construct a string in R from the results of the parse.
SET_VECTOR_ELT(vals, i++, mkString(header.GetHeader().c_str()));
However, now the call header.GetHeader().c_str()

problems compiling under solaris
Hi!
I've been trying to compile R with gcc version 3.4.2 on a box running Solaris 2.6.
I keep on hitting this error during the compile:

Hi there,
I recently noticed some strange behaviour of the command "type.convert",
depending on the startup mode used. But there also seems to be different
behaviour on different PCs (all running the same OS and the same version of R).
On PC1:

png support in R on linux
Hi there,
I am sure this question has been posted a couple times before but I could not find a good solution on the web.
Is there any way to get png() support in R on SUSE linux? We want to run GenePattern on that server and some workflows use R scripts plotting into pngs.
Best wishes
Kristian
