Proxy
Thank you all.
Except from the buffering it was the fact that I used "localhost" instead of
127.0.0.1 in the proxy_pass.
Now my configuration is:
location /stream1/ {
proxy_buffering off;
proxy_ignore_client_abort off;
proxy_intercept_errors on;
proxy_next_upstream error timeout invalid_header;

We've tested this as working relatively well, disable buffering is the major
key if I recall. Otherwise the NGINX server loads up data before handing off
to the client.

listen 80;
server_name my_dns_name.tldn;
location / {

Nginx/Mongrel proxy_read_timeout issue
This may be a nginx issue more than a mongrel one but I though folks in this
list might be interested.
Anyway, I have a mongrel_cluster with 2 front nginx workers as proxy.
I recently replaced apache/mod_proxy for nginx, and I wasn''t aware of the 60
seconds default proxy_read_timeout so I went a head and tried to run a
process via http GET. Normally because of the 60 seconds the GET I

compress and max upload size?
I am using mongrel_cluster with mod_proxy_balancer and would like to
enable compression (assuming it improves throughtput) and limit file
size upload. I configured mod_deflate and LimitRequestSize in Apache,
but in my trials looks like the proxied calls bypass those directives
(the conf goes below).
Is there a way to get this?

Nginx Sock And Rails Envinroment Error
Hi There,
Im running an amazon instance with nginx proxying to a unicorn sock.
For some reason, even though i specify the production environment, when being visited by nginx, the site shows errors in development form.
Interestingly, when running on a port rather than a sock, if i visit that port, the errors are rendered as normal with a 500 page, the same port, throught nginx, shows errors

Nginx, Mongrel, Proxy and REMOTE_ADDR
I''m using a cluster of mongrels behind an apache 1.3 proxy pass. I''ve
been passing the request to pen, which in turn balances the cluster of
mongrels. Now, I''d like to be able to use a different server to send
the static files created by the rails application, so I tried to
replace pen with nginx. Everything seems to work fine except the
environment variable REMOTE_ADDR.

X-Forwarded-Proto / X_FORWARDED_PROTO
Eric,
think I came across an issue with the parser in unicorn, with a request
(due to 2 layers of nginx proxying) coming across with both a
X_FORWARDED_PROTO and a X-Forwarded-Proto header. From the socket (in
HttpRequest) - we get:
X_FORWARDED_PROTO: http
X-Forwarded-Proto: https
which is parsed to
HTTP_X_FORWARDED_PROTO"=>"http,https

bug in xmms plugin v 1.1.2
I, like others here, have noticed that the xmms plugin is broken for
first use in version 1.1.2. The problem is confusion between
dynamically-allocated and statically-allocated strings. A quick,
although perhaps not elegant, fix is included below.
Note: you would not see this if you already had a [flac] section in your
config file, which probably explains how it escaped the notice of

Full HTTPS support
Hi!
I've been giving support for streaming and streamcasting over HTTPS...
Everything started while giving streaming support to my website. When I
read a console error (or was it a warning?) on Chrome, when the browser
accessed to an http:// resource from an https:// domain.
Then I decided to fix it by the clean way.
I don't need official support yet... but if you don't mind to

how does request.host get set?
how does request.host get set? Is there a way to manually set the
value in request.host?
I have several application servers running rails, each has its own
internal address in the request.host, so when calling redirect_to or
url_for function, it uses the internal address which is not accessible
to the user.
what I want is to set request.host to return mysite.com, no matter
which application

mongrel_upload_progress and nginx
G''day
I''m just wondering if anybody knows of a way to get mongrel_upload_progress
working with nginx? I''ve had a fair bit of a look around but havn''t been
able to come up with anything, yet.

A barrage of unexplained timeouts
We''ve been running unicorn-3.6.2 on REE 1.8.7 2011.12 in production for quite some time and we use monit to monitor each unicorn worker. Occasionally, I''ll get a notification that a worker has timed-out and has been re-spawned. In all these cases, when I look at the rails logs, I can see the last request that the worker handled, and they all have appeared to complete

Unicorn and streaming in Rails 3.1
Streaming works with Unicorn + Apache. Both with and without deflating.
My understanding is that Unicorn + Apache is not a good combination
though because Apache does not buffer, and thus Unicorn has no fast
client in front. (I don''t know which is the ultimate technical reason
Unicorn puts such an emphasis on fast clients, but will do some
research about it.)
I have seen in
