question about use MP3s with LAME on Icecast

upcoming libshout beta/snapshot
Hi, as some of you might know Philipp has been working hard on adding TLS support to libshout, and a few other things. Originally we were planning to publish a beta or snapshot today, but we didn't manage to agree on a openssl client side cipher list yet. If anyone happens to know about proven secure settings, just like the Mozilla labs settings for server side, please let us know. We want

ices 0.2.2 does not reencode mp3s
I recently upgraded ices from 0.1.0 to 0.2.2. I have found that it is not reencoding my mp3 stream, even though I have it configured to. This is on a RedHat linux 7.0 system, kernel 2.4.11 ices build commands: ./configure --with-perl --with-lame \ --with-lame-includes=/usr/local/src/lame-3.89/include \ --with-lame-libraries=/usr/local/src/lame-3.89/libmp3lame/.libs gmake

ices and VBR mp3s?
I posted a while back about having trouble with ices 0.2.2 being able to re-encode VBR mp3s, and the response was that ices 0.2.2 did not reencode VBR mp3s. Are there any plans to include such support in future ices versions? If so, any ideas as to when such versions would become available? Thanks, -- "Shall life renew these bodies of a truth? Problem with streaming some mp3s (but not all)
Hi! I would really appreciate if someone could try to help me out with this... i've been struggling with it for quite a while now. :( Anyway, I was trying to use ices to broadcast mp3s with icecast2 (a recent cvs snapshot of all 3 components from brendan's site). I have it working fine for some of my mp3s (encoded with lame -b 32) but with the other mp3s which are actually the ones that

Playing MP3s...
For no reason other than it would be cool, I'd like to be able to dial an extension and have it play a random MP3. Since, however, MP3s are kinda-sorta weird due to patents, I'm not sure what the right approach for this is. Any pointers on how to go about this? Thanks! -Ken

Icecast stats.xml
(see forwarded mail further below) Shoutcast v1, Shoutcast v2, Icecast-KH are all "compatible" with the way info is collected by StreamLicensing. Some may wonder why bothering to humor StreamLicensig, but the thing is that other licensing/royalty collectors did it the same way. StreamLicensing are now sadly the only ones that cater to small independent station that do not wish to be

has_many and foreign_key question
Alright, noob here, etc. etc. Trying to figure out the has_many usage. If I understand correctly, when you declare that a table/class has_many whatevers, the rails assumption is that there will be a foreign key in the whatevers table pointing back to the ''id'' primary key in the first table. This doesn''t seem to be the only way to have a ''has_many''

A few of you sounded interested in using it. I haven''t explicitly put a software license on it, so I guess it''s not technically FOSS yet. What licenses are good? BSD? Public Domain? ? streaming MP3s?
Ok, icecast is up and running, but only ogg-files. Any way to stream MP3s? I got my whole CD-Collection as MP3s and am just to lazy to convert the whole stuff. <p>--- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'icecast-request@xiph.org' containing only the word
